I'm looking to buy three stands. I prefer to look at my Rics instead of letting them waiting in their cases. I came across a lot of topics and i found this Ultimate stand.

I could buy three cheap stands for that amount of money, but I don't want the finish of my Rics to be harmed.

Is this a proper non-damaging alternative?

Carefull with that low profile ultimate pictured Phillip. I have one of those, and your bass will lean waaaaay back in the saddle.

I think someone here even had a problem with that model causing a backbow on one of his Ricks.

Wow! That stand is awesome!! I have 2 Ultimate GS-100 stands that I use but If I add any more basses, I may have to consider a rack that condenses them a bit more or dedicate a portion of a wall to hang them from.

I use a Hercules stand. Fairly sturdy and your bass won't come flying off it at the slightest knock.

If you're going to buy from Hans, you might as well get something good, yet not too expensive:

jingle_jangle wrote:I don't know specifically what your stand looks like, but if you're building it yourself, why not give some thought to lining the contact areas with black felt?

Lots of foam materials have components that degas. Rubber has sulfur, vinyl has phthalates. Phthalates are much worse, BTW.

Felt is finish-friendly.
If I buy some cheap Rockstand and put this felt around the contact areas, will that be a safe solution?

Makes you think, doesn't it?

Stand and collection look great!

I ended up buying a cheap stand but wrapping it in strips of an old sheet so no part of my basses could come in contact with it, but I cant really have my basses out all the time, because a couple of people I play with are often a bit careless when putting their own guitars in the stand, so I tend to put them back in their cases straight away.

Just be aware that the offending materials, primarily chlorine compounds or gases when speaking of older finishes, simply go right through many cloth materials. Sometimes it wicks, other times the offgassing is enough.

Hmm, I think I might sidle off and put them back in the case and consider other options. Risking it might result in many tears later on.

Philip, I'd go for a bit more support:

http://www.thomann.de/gb/hercules_stands_gs_415_b.htm

Hercules are great, but get a bigger stand, as the tiny stand might cause a bass neck to get an ugly bend!
