Jake, you're better off with something that doesn't taste like a pine tree...

Oh I dunno.....I had some gin once. Made a pretty good solvent as I recall.

First rehearsal is tomorrow. I have my pedals intact and a new mic stand with pickholders. Max and I will be jamming without Chance, so he and I can see how much we've improved since July. My bet is that its a lot.
We're also going to try and work on the keyboard's sound. The organ function on the keyboard is terrible, it sounds like a quiet church organ. I told Max we would use my old Danelectro Surf & Turf compressor (it didn't do much with guitar, but did the job right with keyboard) and run it though a Marshall solid-state guitar amp with treble high and try chorus and flange to make it sound more like a Hammond. Anybody think flange or chorus is a good idea. Any other suggestions?

Using cycling effects such as chorus, flanger, phaser, tremelo, etc., can work, but only if they are timed properly. They needn't be timed exactly the same, but they need to be synched up in such a way so the signal comes through relatively uniformly.
Try it out through the gamut of possibilities - if you've an ear, you'll hear when it's wrong, and you'll hear when it's right. RIght and wrong being subjective, of course.
My experience with chorus on bass is that it sounds silly set anywhere faster than about a one-second "swirl." Adding flange to that should compliment that pattern. In any case, use one effect setting to get the sound you want, and then tailor the others to synch with them. Flange and chorus might well work together with an organ sound, if applied judiciously. Remember - effects should generally modify the sound; they aren't a substitute for the actual sound.

The gig has been pushed back to July 10th because of my job getting in the way. I'm also thinking about giving the setlist a makeover. Some friends of mine are telling me I should do a Tom Petty appreciation show, covering my favorite hits, his best covers and stuff people haven't heard from the new album, "Mojo".
I don't want to sound like a tribute band, because there are only three of us, but a band featuring two good friends of mine said their trio could segue with my trio, creating the perfect match of the current Heartbreaker lineup.

More updates on the gig:
It looks like the gig is full-steam ahead for July 10th. Max and I also have a possiblity of a drummer coming onboard! The guy's name is Paul, he's a good friend of Max and myself. He's sort of like a white Steve Ferrone. Not in looks (he looks more like the "All Things Must Pass" George Harrison), but in playing. He can get Ringo simple when the song calls for it, or he can get Stan Lynch ferrocious (he already disclosed he can't get Keith Moon ferrocious). All four of the members have Facebook, so I'm gonna use that to determine when the first rehearsal is. I'm planning it out for next week.
Still have to go over the set-list with everyone...
