'I'm An Adult Now'!!!
Re: Todd Rundgren
Forumites here love the Runt!
TPOH's Love Junk is a minor masterpiece; I recall my guitar teacher describing it, at the time of its release, as a cross between REM and AC/DC. My favorite track is "She's So Young." (BTW, there's a video of "I'm An Adult Now"--not the Love Junk version, but an earlier indie recording--that features a Rick. It's part of an earlier thread on the forum, I believe.)
I also like Utopia's self-titled album from 1982. I don't know if there's any Ricks on there, but there are some very catchy, clever, concise pop songs--much more my taste that the prog-rock stuff from the mid-70s.

i love utopia's 1974 first self titled lp with the utopia tune..."city in my head....utopia!" great album(kinda zappa-ish). todd get's some great sounds out of his not rickenbacker SG. cool synth work as well. todd wore bizare clothing akin to the early kim mitchell/max webster days, although i think todd had them first !
Re: Todd Rundgren
Hey Ronbo - did you ever cross paths with TPOH back in the day?
Re: Todd Rundgren
Yeah, the "Universal Juveniles" yellow unitard wasn't a great look...BAD RONBO, KiLLeR DWaRfS wrote:i love utopia's 1974 first self titled lp with the utopia tune..."city in my head....utopia!" great album(kinda zappa-ish). todd get's some great sounds out of his not rickenbacker SG. cool synth work as well. todd wore bizare clothing akin to the early kim mitchell/max webster days, although i think todd had them first !

I saw Utopia in 1977 during the Ra tour....to this day, one of the best shows I have ever seen. Saw him again in the early 80s at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin....amazing!

yeah, we knowed moe and da boyz and girls. when we were doing "big deal " with producer simon hanhart, at phase one in scarborough moe was doing that "adult now" lp in the next room. the backup girls harmonies were driving me crazy as they were also harmonized electronically and kept doing the playback over and over and...you git ma point ! later on we met them on tour as both our bands were doing the california circuit. we went to see them play at a club and cheered them on louder than the whole audience
. then...something happened
...back at the hotel...real bad
...quite exciting in a way
...but then , not really
...a punch was thrown
...then a toilet tank cover came into play
...there was a scuffle
...a raw t-bone steak was involved afterwards
...then we flew back to toronto and not a word was uttered for the 5 hour flight !

Re: Todd Rundgren
this was all because of going to see "the pursuit of happiness" !

btw...whitesnake had just finished recording there at phase one studios and all their gear was in one of the un used rehearsal rooms.

Re: Todd Rundgren
I have actually played Todd's John Lennon model. Worked for him in '93/94.

... and he produced most of Badfinger's Straight Up. That album, Something Anything, and his songwriting in the Nazz alone make him one of the greats for me.
Re: Todd Rundgren
Something/Anything was one of the most incredible things I heard when I was first learning to play with an eye toward songwriting. His range of styles and topics was just incredible. And, as I recall, he promised to "go all night".

With respect....what exactly was BAD about this song and performance???miltric wrote:Not one of his best songs, and not a great performance, but I've never seen TR with a Rick, so it's worth posting for that reason, I guess . . .
Thank you for posting this.....TR is THE MAN...he plays guitar, bass, keyboards and drums better than most of the cats in most of the bands that we've heard since 1971.....

Re: Todd Rundgren
The album cover shown is for one of the most incredible music works in history, "Something/Anything" and I wonder how many Todd fans realize that fact----it is a double album. and 3 of the sides are ALL Todd on ALL vocals and instruments--including drumsjps wrote:No Rick, but here is another one to get stuck in your head, Kira.kiramdear wrote:Now this song will be stuck in my head all day. That's what Todd does best.![]()

There is a picture of him in his living room, full of wires, mics and an 8-track pro tape recording outfit, probably a Scully, and he has an SG strapped on.....in an interview he revealed that he recorded the drums FIRST...then added guitar or piano, then bass, and so on.....ping-ponging tracks as he worked. THEN, he mixed and mastered......besides writing all the songs......"Something/Anything?"......is a masterpiece

I just ran across this picture from 1981. Todd sports a 360 or 360/12, looks like. Just sharing.
