I'm the french girl who bought the 8 string red neck.
It's a great bass and I won't let it go anytime soon, sorry. Unless my neighbours sue me.
I didn't care about the red neck at first, but I must say it adds something special to it, even if I'm finding myself a little shy when I have to take it outside.
Maybe one day, I'll trade it for a more common colour. Or I'll just buy a 2nd! But I guess I need a bigger place first.
I don't read the forum very often, but it's always nice to talk to people with similar taste!
Cheers

Hey, Lou!
Welcome! Nothing to be shy about your Redneck! That's a fantastic and unusual instrument.
I hope you stick around and enjoy the fun here. It's a very friendly and knowledgeable crowd, and more ladies are sorely needed!

I'm only shy because I'm afraid to bump it, or worse!
Otherwise it makes great impression, I love it!

Hey Loulou,
I think that's the Rick Eight-String I played at the 1985 Winter NAMM Show! Just kidding.
I did get to play one there, probably allot like yours. It was very cool!
The guys kinda got uptight on me though, when I asked them why the High Strings were strung Under
instead of Over the Low Strings.
Like, "How dare you question the Omni-Imperial OZ!". At that point all that was missing were the Flames and Flash Pots
exploding (like KISS) to really put me in my place for not having a Brain!
Sorry, that was kinda like a Flash Back!
I loved playing that 4008 though!
Take care
Garret

Actually the 4008 had the octave strings on top - they reversed them for the 4003S/8 which is what the redneck is. I also prefer the 4008 octave on top arrangement.
And love that Redneck 8-string!

I'm a fan of fundamental string on top....but that's from many years of 12-string abuse.
My current non-Rick 8-string has octave on top and it's not slowing me down too much.
That Rick 8-string is BEAUTIFUL by the way...

That's right, a 4003s/8.
It was born a cold and lovely day in Feb'88, I doubt you played it at the NAMM 3 years before, but everything's possible with this bass although versatility's certainly not one of its qualities!
The string arrangement is fine, I find it more playable than expected, but I'd sure like to try a 4008. And I don't like fast bass playing anyway. The right tone at the right time makes the deal for me.
Thanks again for the warm welcomes!
