Apple said recently that the iPhone thing is actually a matter of how the bars are displayed by the software, not the actual reception. Yes, the reception decreases, but it's actually negligible--what's goofy is the bars display it as a complete loss. Or that's what Apple is claiming here:

I never liked these Toyota commercials because I know way too many people like the "dad".

The new IPhone reception "problem" is the next "stuck accelerator" hysteria, though it's unlikely Apple could be accused of criminal negligence for getting someone killed due to bad phone reception.

I wouldn't mind having a swagger wagon; might be easier to stuff more gear into at the next minicon. . . .
I don't get it. All the iPhone whiners have to do is buy a cover available at every store or kiosk in the nation.

I think the fervor is that people like the minimalist design of the IPhone and dislike having to cover it up with a cover to make up for a design flaw that should have been caught in the QA process of design testing. I have one and do experience the dropping signal problem, but have adjusted the way I hold the phone to compensate.

"the U.S. Department of Transportation has concluded that the real culprit is driver error.
Investigators analyzed data recorders from numerous Toyota vehicles, says the Wall Street Journal, and each car’s throttle was fully depressed while the brakes were not actuated at all. To make matters clearer, of the 75 fatal accidents blamed on unintentional or sudden acceleration, only one shows the vehicle as being the cause of the incident. In this his incident, where a Lexus ES 350 killed a California Highway officer and three passengers in August of last year, a sticking floor mat was blamed. Toyota quickly recalled all floor mats that could potentially cause a similar problem, and no similar issues have been reported. Incidentally, Toyota Canada uses different floor mats and had no similar problems.

Additionally, the U.S. Transportation Department officials went on record to say that they haven’t found any electronic problems with Toyota vehicles that could have lead to an unintended/sudden acceleration accident. Only the floor mat issue and a problem with sticky accelerator pedals, which were slow to return, have been noted as potential problems, and these have been dealt with via recalls. "

NOPE. The NHTSA has said that this nonsense was put out by Toyota's own PR machine.
I am curious - where did you read that this was nonsense, if I may ask? I have read numerous places that the upcoming NHTSA report will contain basically the information above, and didn't see anywhere that the NHTSA was distancing themselves from this preview of the final report. Plus, the runaway car problems were only happening in the US... no one was complaining about the same hardware when located in a less litigous locale. So it sure seems to me like this cause was driver error. I am amazed they even replaced floormats... I thought the floor mat/accelerator jamming problem could happen anywhere - happened to me on a Chevy Lumina in the mid-90's but no one gave me new mats. ; )
