Color Of the Year - For a while, RIC was producing special limited runs of special colors that could only be ordered during a single year...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Hi, Everyone,
Long time no post around here. I bought that one off the Ricpage. Very nice.

I've seen in quite a while...
http://www.the-music-connection.com/ric.htm (Under "Just Arrived" in green).
CJ,

Thanks for the tip. You gave me the "heads up" about that Blueburst Mike has on the RIC forum. I called him and talked to him a bit, great guy. I think those Bluebursts are just stunning, but I just can't come up with the $$$ for it right now. Even if I got what I am asking for the bass I am selling, I would still be around a grand short.

I know I shouldn't ask this, but does ANYONE have a guess when 4003FL will go back into production. I am new to Rics, having gotten a 2010 4003 in January and a 2009 330 in May and I was able to get them instantly. I guess what I want to know is what exactly the backlog situation is and how bad it is. I really don't totally understand because it looks like there are plenty of 4003's, 330's and 360's out there for sale. If I am missing something obvious, let me know...gently. I am a noob here! It's just hard to not know when they will be available again.

Thank you Joey for the nice welcome. I will keep my eyes on eBay, but, to be honest, I am a bit nervous buying a bass off there. Any tips?

Thank you, thank you~ I will take some pics/ Just as soon as make it to the post office.

What is with the Ric strings? I have never had a FL with them on, and, while they do have that classic sound, they feel horrible. I have Rotosound 88's on my others and I just love them, but they do sound woody, like an upright. For my style of music, that is what fits better.

I was reading that JH spent a lot of time to get just the right strings, but is there anyone else besides me that doesn't like them?

I had a hard time believing it when I saw it there. I went on there to buy a switch that broke on another bass, and there it was. I thought they were all sold?????
I justified it by the fact that I was looking at it when we were waiting for delivery.......they aren't making FL any more??????............and it just had to be fate that it was still there. it was around 2K and I have seen them sell on ebay for way more. Seemed like a good investment.

What is with the discontinuation of the FL?????

4003FLs are on hiatus, not discontinued. As to what that means on a practical level, it's anyone's guess.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

I think it means that if the get enough orders to justify doing a run, it'll happen. Right now, they've got so many back orders on everything else, they just can't justify putting out anything that isn't the mainstay of their business. But, the backlog situation is definitely improving, so, sometime in the future, I'm sure they will start producing FL basses again...

Right; I was only indicating that, from a practical standpoint, those outside of the company wouldn't be able to estimate whether that might be next month or in 10 years. That said, FLs aren't too hard to find. They show up fairly often on ebay, and quite a few were made in the mid 70s-90s.

Nice to know who ended up with that wonderful bass. Would love to see pics when you have the time. A bit after originally posting that I found a 2008 4003FL in MG with some nice figuring on the fretboard and body and within my budget. The guy who had it before me must not have played it as I had to look hard to find ANY wear on it and what I found was no worse than a new bass hanging in a store that has been tried out a few times. I suspect one of the reasons he didn't like it is because it was setup like a Fender (neck relief & a fair bit at that) and the tone was just strangled. I got the neck straight and it opened up and sang as it should.

4003 FL Recently shipped from RIC to Rosetti LTD

Post by basmansam »

Rickenbacker Recent Shipments is showing one 4003 FL as being shipped to Rosetti Limited. I would think they would do a complete run not a one off, or maybe it's listed by mistake.

IIRC, the shipments are not for individual instruments but for what models that were shipped.

Rosetti is the only "Customer" listed being shipped. Rickenbacker obviously wont produce less than a certain number instruments for production reasons, that's why I stated in my original post.
