Ah. I see. Thanks. :)
Someone did something similar on a 4001, sacrificing normal tone control, using the pot for adjustable bypass of the 4.7nF cap.

CJ explained that circuit to me once but I'm too much of a dunce to understand it. From what my feeble mind can tell looking at it right now, R3 seems to be affecting what frequencies will actually make it to R2, which is the true tone control sending frequencies to ground (which I think is smart instead of two independently-wired tone controls, which would be messy and would really increase signal loading). I guess R3 either favors signal passage through the 100 kohm resistor or the 47 nF cap. I suppose that means if the 100 kohm resistor is favored with R3, the bass cut is "on", because my understanding is that low frequencies will pass the resistor more efficiently. What this really does in practice I can't say having never played one, although I find it interesting that there is a cap of the same value on either "side" of R2 which is maybe to be a doubly effective block for frequencies below the hinge? And R1 is of course volume.

A 1976 3001 JG was my first Rickenbacker bass; purchased in 1983 at Al Trombetti's Music in Warwick, RI used for $175.
Lost it in the mid-80's for a few years, then got it back!!!!!!!!

HEAVIEST bass guitar I own (6 other Rickenbackers, @ 17 all together).
Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

Thick, heavy body. Less refined that the 4000 series. But probably more effective in a bar fight.

daveman wrote:VTT. The first tone control is a "normal" passive treble cut (roll-off). The 2d is a passive bass cut. I've never seen another bass (or guitar for that matter) with a passive bass cut. It actually is quite useful. [Edited out repeat link to schematic.]
Dave, G&L uses passive treble & bass cut controls on both guitars and basses. It's actually a very useful system. Works great with hot pickups. I currently own two G&L basses and definitely love the passive bass-cut thing.

BTW, I currently have a serious GAS for a 3001. Pity, they cannot be found so easily today. Nice axe of yours...
