I love the edge Tech 21 products put on a direct-recorded sound - it's excellent.
The playing is very sloppy, so please don't beat me up too much. I made that riff right before I was about to go to bed, after messing with my new interface for hours and being aggravated by it(it's my first "recording" anything).
I hit "record" so I wouldn't forget what I came up with.
Tech 21 w/Boss Space Echo pedal, direct, on '02 4003 and year-old Lo-Riders(hope the download link works):

I think that sounds pretty killer!

The VT Bass is a fantastic pedal. I couldn't live without mine now.

i've got the vt pedal on order, really stoked to see how it sounds with my markbass combo. i have heard various reports of people needing to disconnect their tweeters to keep the high end from sounding "fried" when using od/tube pedal emulators. the fact that the pedal has a fliptop emulator setting is pretty cool, since i just sold my ampeg sb-12 when i bought the markbass....

To my ears, tweeters in bass cabs sound horrible when overdrive or distortion is used. The only time I would use the tweeter would be if I was playing in a modern jazz band where the tone is very clean.

Joey and Adrian: You need to check out Gallien-Krueger. The tweeter is run on a second amp, internal to the head. As long as the distortion is coming from amp overdrive, it's only from the main amp running the woofers. The tweeter is controlled independently via a separate volume control (w/ hi cut if wanted) that cannot overdrive the tweeter.
Of course, if the distortion is from a loop effect or in-line effect, your results may vary. I've never been unhappy with any sound I've gotten from my GK 700RB-II w/ 2x12 Neo cab w/ tweeter. Never, never, never.
