Sid had ZERO musical talent. There is however controversy whether he actually killed Nancy, who was nothing more than a junkie hanger on herself.

Sex Pistols as a whole (in my opinion) were more legend than skilled.The Ramones were the real deal when it came to punk.

To each his own,...but the Ramones were comfortably situated, middle class kids from Queens.

The SP were angry, frustrated, lower economic, hopeless British youth who raged about some serious social class and political issues (akin to the Clash),...unilke the Ramones and their 'Blitzkreig Boppin', 'Rock 'n Roll High School' Party Rock anthems....in other words, they were real punks.

To me, Punk was a searing outlet for rebellion rather than a movement that was defined by, or depended on the 'skill' of it's musicians.

so, glen is using an early '75 or late '74 with the factory regular klusons installed instead of the grovers in that pic.

Matlock: Yeah. I played that all through the early days when I was with the Pistols. But then, when we got our deal, I did actually go and buy a Rickenbacker®, because it was nice and shiny. And it sounded fine, you know, but it was just too fiddley. You know, it’s got that thing where you sort of plug it in and get the Ric-O-Sound (the stereo output found on many Rickenbacker® guitars and basses); I had one of those. I mean, the one I got, I actually used that one on “Anarchy In the U.K.,” and it’s in the hall of fame now, in Cleveland. I’m going to have it back soon. So it’s nice to have but, you know, I have all these kind of fancy bits, but it ain’t no good for punk rock, really.

Simonon: For his part, bassist Simonon paid his gear dues early in the band’s history, working a string of no-name copy instruments. As the band got more attention, Simonon acquired a Rickenbacker 4001, which he disliked. He wanted a bass that was substantial in both weight and tone.

Sid played on one recording, Bodies, but in the end it wasn't used.

Steve Jones played all the bass on SP recordings except the original Anarchy single and it's 'demo' b side 'No Feeling' (later re-recorded for ******** and correctly named 'No Feelings')

Glen was asked to come back as a session musician for NMTB but refused as he was busy putting the Rich Kids together. Sid was in hospital so they decided to let Jonsey have a go at the bass just to have something to work with as everything else was recorded, and work it did, the Pistols sound was created. Jones just played the same on the bass as he did on guitar, making a powerful sound, rather than distinct bass-lines that Matlock played live.

All the pics I have seen of Sid are with him playing a white P Bass. Well not playing it just holding it and attempting to play it.

He plays a 4001FG in a scene in TGRRS.

Funny how Glen Matlock and Paul Simonon both weren't crazy about their Ricks. Largely because of those two players, I consider the 4003 to be a classic punk rock bass! But then again, George Harrison thought his Gretsch through a Vox "sounded like ****" and that's another classic tone, in my opinion...

And also funny how neither one played a 4003!

The Pistols were the biggest joke ever in the music industry. Little kids trying to act tough and coming off like the wimps they were. A bunch of plug uglies Who probably never played more then 20 gigs and everyone is hailing them as the next messiahs. What is their legacy one lousy LP. What do they have to do with Rics aside from the fact the 1st bassist played a Ric bass. Guys like Lennon and McGuinn showed the world how great Rics could sound when real talent played them. The Pistols, don't make me laugh, Cheers
