That's a fair hypothesis. Certainly in this day and age of stronger necks, a bit of tension imbalance is easily dealt with by the truss rods and/or better construction technique, so volume balance becomes a more important consideration.

Well if you believe "Samantha Doom" from my local GC, it's because "Everyone does it that way man... That's how all players like it so it's good." That's what I get for asking about single strings.

I have been using the Rotosound 77 jazz flats- 40,50,75,90 I like em alot. Sound great and not sloppy either, just throwing in my 2 cents worth. I nice to hear what other folks use for strings
