Yes it was really really cool to meet Collin in person here in Hamilton... I am in the middle of performing in a theatre production in Toronto this week and am also setting up a local arts festival... But it was great to get to meet!

Collin (as some of you may recall) was the person who bought and shipped my 1977 JG 620 to me last spring... It was a pleasure to be a tiny part of his journey to get his hands on a real 1964 1993!! That is what this forum is for!

And I will echo what has been said here. Bill Dillon is a guitar god... I am humbled every time he plays. (he also has massive collection of vintage VOX amps too - the hour we spent jamming on Beatles - me playing Bill's 1958 Gibson J160e - was really really cool...

Another vote here for keeping the inlays...they're part of the history of the guitar now.

One detail though -- if it's a 1964 build, isn't it necessarily a Rose Morris? I ask because you seemed unsure:

Are you thinking that because you found it in Canada it may not have been shipped to Rose Morris? Did Bill give you the story on how he came to own the guitar?

Regardless, it's a beauty and I will join the chorus here to keep it as is, tasteful mods intact.

Hmm.....not sure what I want to do yet. It has a real Rickenbacker crushed pearl inlay neck on it, so it looks amazing.....and it is Townshend-spec. On the other hand, I have an original 60's dot board, which does look mighty nice (and stock) when it's mocked up against the guitar....

I think for now, i'm just going to enjoy it as-is.

ps....yeah, I love Marr's (ex-Townshend) RM1993. Nice one!

Yeah, I'm a bit unsure if it's a Rose Morris or an S-model export (i'm happy with either....neither are too plentiful!), only because it came out of Canada. Can't say for sure though (without factory records). Bill said that he bought it in Ontario in the mid-late 60's, when the guitar was only a couple years old, so i'm assuming it's always been in Canada.

So was the whole neck replaced, or was it just a pro inlay job back in the day? Or was the fretboard of a real crushed pearl board taken off another guitar and put on yours?

It's the skilled craftsmanship of Bill Dillon!

Decades ago, he got ahold of a broken 4001 neck and lifted the inlays from it, and cut them to fit to the existing fretboard. Then he bound it, and it all looks 100% factory original---nice work! So, technically, I shouldn't call it a fretboard replacemet as it's still technically the original fretboard wood.

Neat! In that case, I'll case my vote for keeping it as-is. It's vintage *and* one-of-a-kind.
