I almost always use a gig bag. I have a few cheaper ones, but the one that gets the most use is a Lakland bag (I believe they are made by another company - not sure which one off the top of my head). I have no problem using a gig bag (even with my 4002), as long as I'm the one doing the transporting.

I use gigbags 99% of the time. I only recently got a case for my '72; it's been without for over 10 years. The only time I try to use a case exclusively is where the bass is absolutely mint or I'm not sure whether I'll be keeping it. As I tend not to like using absolutely mint basses the latter is more often the case.

I hate lugging around hardshell cases and have used good well padded gigbags for years . Never had a problem .

I've had problem with my left foot for over the past 20 weeks. I have not worn a shoe on that foot the whole time and I have been crutches the whole time as well.
Lately, I've been using a Kaces Boutique Polyfoam Bass Case. It's sort of a cross between a hardshell case and a gig bag. It offers much more protection than just about any gig bag and not much less protection than a standard hardshell case. The two straps that are on the back keep me in balance while I'm walking n crutches.
Gator makes a similar case, but theirs only has one back strap. Many gig bags only have one back strap as well. Being off balance on crutches can make you fall!

Oh no Joey! Best wishes... I am getting so tired of the crutches and it's only been two weeks. I can only imagine how you might feel about them by now. Godspeed dude!

I used a gig bag for a while until people here convinced me to stop.
To be completely honest - I hate lugging around my hardshell case and I think of going back to my gigbag for rehearsals (not for gigs as it needs extra protection when it's not near me), it is much more comfortable as I can take it on my back.
My bag is a really well padded gigbag (rockbag by warwick) so don't use cheap nylon bags if you do!

I can't fit a full case in my car, so gigbags for me.

Thanks! I've gotten to the point where I call them my "girlfriends" now. I've wanted each arm around a girl. Now I've got THEM!

They're a little skinny though, they don't eat much! They sure are a pain in the um...armpits and hands!
Best wishes to you too with your foot healing up quickly, Joshua!

Here is some good testimonial for the RB bag:
sloop_john_b wrote:I absolutely always use gig bags, 100% of the time. I have a very nice Reunion Blues bag and a bag made by Body Glove which is excellent as well. I have played 75-100 bass gigs per year over the past 3-4 years and lugged them to god-knows-how-many rehearsals over that time, and I am happy to report that my basses have suffered no damage while in their bags.

Testimonials supporting the use of gig bags notwithstanding, I still like the roadie idea best.

You're tellin' me buddy. Working in a hands-on wet lab has not been any fun with these things.
You guys think I could take my 4003FL to GC and try to see if the bass would fit snugly in one of those RB Continentals they stock? I was going to go with a Protec but they bumped the price way up.
