I probably would have gone with "slightly inelegant."

I think it depends on the guitar. I love the vintage (non-oven) knobs, but I had them on my 360/12 JG VP for a while, and ended up going back to the silver tops. Just felt a wee bit classier, and kind of lifted them off the body, in a way.

I could see maybe putting oven knobs on something with a big body, but on my 660/12 AFG, I like the smaller knobs.

Did I really just say "my 660/12 AFG?" Sigh...I have to stop staring at it. People are going to start to talk...

They're just way too big. A Ric has so much to look at, they don't need some big oven knobs on there. The vintage black knobs are perfect in almost all cases ... but I digress. That 660/12 AFG sure is a looker !

I think the oven knobs are pretty ugly, not just dorky. I've never seen a guitar I've liked them on.

Since my home is, by decree, a "single-12-string household," I got out my 360/12 JG VP last night to take some pictures for its impending ebay debut, and ended up spending an hour A/B'ing it with my 660/12. That turned out to be quite a revelation, and made me really think twice about giving up my 360. In spite of having the same pick-ups and same strings, they are quite different.

Duh.

The 660 is much tighter, brighter, and more muscular. Louder, too. I suppose that could be a function of pick-up height, as its bridge pup appears to be a tiny bit higher. But just to confirm: the factory toasters on the 660 are 7.5, right?
