Eh, this mod doesn't bother me all that much. I think the white PG looks goofy with all the black hardware, actually. If he's going to play it and it works for him, it's far from the worst mod of a Rick we've seen. If he decides to sell it, well, then someone else can pick up a cheap 4003s for one of their projects.

Full disclosure: I have a 4003s being chopped up for a project right now, although mine's just being transformed into a different iconic Rick style. Mine was a beater that came to me already stripped, though.

Looks Scandanavian, or reminds me of Danish mid-modern furniture for some reason. Must be the maple contrasted with the dark wood p/g and the silver knobs in a line.

In any case. I don't understand one's needing to move the neck p/up b/c it interferes w/his playing. a Rick bass p/up is not intrusively high off the body by ay means. Certainly nowhere near the height of say, A Rick guitar middle third p/up, which I don't find interfering with my playing either.

I've been playing bass off and on for over twenty years in addition to guitar, and I don't understand how the p/up could get in his way. Also moving the bridge p/up CLOSER to the bridge to get more MIDS doesn't make sense to me either. It would certainly produce more highs, but the Rick bridge p/up is already quite bright sounding.

Why didn't he just buy a 4004 for the hum issue and bridge preference? He might have even been happier with the p/up placement.

In any case, it's another Swiss-cheese routed bass, and +1 on the observatino that why did it have to be an "S"; as fond as I am of body and neck binding, I am all too aware of the relative rareness of the "S" bass models.

At least it could be a resto candidate in a solid color by a forum luthier at some point in the future!

He's given the "S" designation a new meaning. Chacun à son goût.

The maple/black doesn't jive with me, and like others, can't see the reason, (or the rhyme for that matter) of moving the pick up either.

He moved the neck pickup due to it being in the way of slapping. That's why. He's probably accustomed to a standard Fender (no, I won't censor it like some do on here) placement so he scooted the pickup back to where he was used to it.
Also 4004's have a wider and thicker neck, right? Maybe he didn't want that either.

At least the mods to my 4003s (mapleglo w/bt)e are reversable...I'm just switching to white plastic and chrome and I'm keeping all the bt parts so it can be switched back.

Here's to hoping it sells cheap soon so I can pick it up and mod it like I like with no fear of any "damage" to it.

I think this could be the best mod ever since it was done to a clean bass and I'd love to have it for $500.
