Thanks for posting the recommendation on Don's Turf motel.
+1!
Especially in these times, the Marriott might be a bit pricey for many.

Don's Turf is a hilarious motel, btw....

They have this HUGE old 70's Cadillac parked in the front entrance, which is completely covered in dust.....i'm not sure if they left it there for decoration, or just parked it 30 years ago and it just became decoration over time.

That would be your best option for low-budget accomodations. Los Alamitos is a sleepy little town of 12,000 people.....not too much happens and you won't need a reservation in nearly any of the town's hotels/motels.

If anybody needs any other suggestions, let me know, there are plenty. (including much better food down the street at Katella Deli).

Oh man, you gotta eat at the
Gourmet Cafe and Pie Company
5350 Katella Ave
Los Alamitos, CA 90720
(714) 995-8930

The place rocks-even better than the Katella Deli IMO, and the FRENCH TOAST is unbelievable for breakfast!!!! :D

I like the Katella Deli and the Gourmet Cafe & Pie Co. is is another very good eatery right near The Starting Gate as well.

Edit: eh Paulie, you just beat me to posting about the Gourmet Cafe & Pie Co.

     :D

I'll prolly just stick to the Starting Gate's kitchen on the day of the event though; the food was really good IMO, and it's the least we can do to give the place as much biz as possible if they're providing the venue for us!

We SCARF organizers are expecting a stampede of attendees, by the way, especially among our fellow local forumites, as well as by anyone who can find a cheap flight! Chime in people, don't make us hunt you down!

I want to see so many bassists on stage for "Big Bottom" that they're practically falling off the edges. :D
Workshop hosts welcome
Bring your wives, girlfriends, vocalists, maracca shakers, buddies, et cetera!

I'm with you Paul! If we spend money at the Starting Gate, they'll want us back. BTD from SG101 is thinking of doing a once-a-month Surf Jam there, and after the business the Convention brought in, the owner was more than happy to give him the venue at no charge.

Just my luck. The same day I see this thread is the same day I found out I'm attending a business conference on October 16th on the Gold Coast in Queensland. I could've done with a little rock'n'roll recreation in SoCal.

Sorry team.....I'm sure Paul will do a fantastic job on the drums!
