I, too would almost certainly say Walnut, even without photos.
I think a botched FireGlo would be fairly obvious to you, and satin AutumnGlo is not only less common throughout the whole 70s/80s, it is even less so as late '86.

Speaking of "non-burst" versions of "bursts" ... remember some years ago that the factory put out a Fireglo red 620 that pretty much lacked a burst. Now that is a real oddity!

Bob: Are you referring to an instrument you have seen or photos of instruments from 1986. Lighting can have be a significant factor in trying to identify finishes.
Based on your options listed in your question about the 1986 12 string, I would say that a variation of fireglo may be what you are seeing.
The following
1986 360/12V64 is from the RRF Register. It is leaning in the direction of autumnglo although the fireglo can still be identified.
