Sorry M'Dear, that's a custom shop model starting at 2250

Yeah, under 500 bucks, 2 p90s and a solid finish, I'd check that out. I already have the satin white 2 pickup MM I paid 3 something for when they first started making them again a few years ago, not a bad guitar at all really.

A Melody Maker with P-90s sounds all right to me. Back in the day, everybody modded those guitars.

I don't have any problem with the Jonas Brothers. They play solid, modern pop as good as anybody out there. They've also been playing Gibson guitars for years. Still, I fail to see the logic here. I don't agree with their marketing blurb that this guitar will have "broad appeal". Like someone already said, this should be an Epiphone model with a modest price.

I have to say, watching Gibson's corporate meltdown has been quite entertaining these past few years. Although I do feel sorry for all those employees that really do care about their products and the company's reputation.

Very, very funny, Sir!
But..... just to play devil's advocate here. If these guys turn out to have some staying power (doubtful), these guitars could become collector's items down the road. You have to figure that at least half the run of 300 will go to l'il Johnnie or Suzie and get trashed very quickly.
Musically, I remember similar comments made about the Monkees in their day. Heck, my buddies and I constantly mocked both the Monkees and their fans back then. Only a total loser would buy and play a Monkees Gretsch! Flash forward a few decades and people have great memories about the Monkees, their fantastic music, and the Gretsch is sought after. But, having said all that, there's no way I'd consider buying one of these to play. I think the Taylor Swift model Taylor is a better long term investment, anyway. Tom
One big difference, and that difference is 40+ years!

We've had thousands of hype-created groups since the Monkees. We're tired of them. We appreciate real talent. Not saying that the Jonas Briothers don't have any, but to me they seem to be more Menudo than Monkee.

This guitar has a MSRP of over a grand. How many tweener fans do you suppose are going to find this under their Christmas tree?

(Well, Henry's only looking to sell 300...it gets weirder still...are his bankers THAT square?)

And I prefer the Taylor Swift model Swift.

That's true enough, but That's only going to help vintage guitar dealers and collectors. I don't see how that helps Gibson.

Someone made the comment comparing them to The Beatles and said the fact that they have a backup band is not a big deal since a lot of artists/groups have them these days.

So that got me to thinking... Who exactly played in the backup band for The Beatles? I mean, who was there just in case John or George missed a note? Pretty clever how The Beatles were able to hide the supporting musicians at all their live shows.

Great question. Jimmy Nichol sat in on drums for roughly three-quarters of the performances when Ringo was ill for the first Beatles' World Tour in June 1964.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have no beef with the Jonas Brothers. :) I can't name any of their songs, but it would be cool to be in a situation like the Jonas Brothers; make a pile of cash performing one's own pop numbers to tons of adoring fans, with your own siblings, provided it wasn't like a Davies or Gallagher brothers-type relationship. My comment was that Gibson completely missed the mark with the Jonas Brothers Sig model these -see above. :)

I hear ya. It just begs the question, how can Gibson misread its own customer base so often and so completely?

I like that shell pink SG, Eden. Nothing to be ashamed of.

I know you have no beef against the Jo Bros (Disney girls call them this), Paul, heck I'd love to be in their situation, too, but you have to know the right people, and they obviously did.

It has a full-sized headstock, double pickups with matching pickguard, and selector switch. So i'm not really sure what part of this guitar is a Melody Maker other than the pickguard vaguely resembling it but not even bearing the Melody Maker name. Also, could they have put the pickup selector in a worse position on that guitar? Yea, i'm sure sticking it directly underneath the 'sweet spot' picking area was brilliant.
