Forgot my camera the last 2 weeks.

So far I have built the mold, made a template for the headstock (a subtle asymmetric design that I think is pretty cool), glued the back, ran the top through the shooting board to get it ready to glue first thing next week.

It will have to be a 3 piece top top because my design is 1.25 inches wider per side than the spruce they had available. No big deal, just a couple of little wings in the lower bout. If I set it up right with the straight grain in the wood, it will be hard to spot. I managed to get the full width of the back in 2 pieces.

Next week will be side bending & doing the scarf joint in the neck, I think.

Kind of pathetic that I woke up this morning thinking "Dammit, it's only Friday!"

Update:
Perhaps the roasted curly maple was not the best choice for a first guitar. Or perhaps I should've gone with a dreadnaught design to reduce the amount of curve in the waist.
A couple of cracks in the sides, a whole lot of wrestling with the wood and I still couldn't get the tight curves. I eventually gave in and asked the instructor for help, and he commented on how stiff & dry the wood was. At his suggestion, I thinned the waist down to about 1.3mm (plans for the dreadnaught say 2mm) One side is finished, one roughly in shape. Luckily I got a third side piece (an off cut, but pretty close to the sam size), so I thinned that down to 1.2-1.3mm for the whole length. If I brutalize the second side, at least I have a backup.
Other than that, top & back are cut & ready for rosette & bracing, neck is cut & ready for truss rod routing. For the headstock veneer, I have a sandwich of veneers that goes rosewood, maple, blue dyed wood (possible birch) then roasted maple. I bought some abalone fret markers & I'm hoping to get started on the fretboard this week.
Photos will follow.
