Re: Flats
I have a few sets of flats I'm not going to use. GHS Precision 45-95, La Bella 43-104, TI's, and the new Fender flats 45-100. I've setteled on an old set of TI's for my bass now, hopefully they last another 4 years! They sound so sweet now though. If you want to try any of those sets (already cut for a ric) I will give em to you if you pay postage. Let me know!

Mike,
Thank you for your generosity!

Watch those teeth, Marlin. I'm not sure we've properly sedated the beast . . .

No. They're similar but not the same. I used to think this too but the more I play them, the more I realize they aren't quite the same. The Fenders are mellower for sure.VRICKY63 wrote:The new Fender flats are Daddario Chromes.
Re: Flats
I suspect this is similar to the "Rickenbacker strings are D'Addarios" statement. Yes, D'A is one manufacturer that RIC uses, and they get strings made to their specifications. This doesn't mean that you get the same thing if you buy D'A brand.cassius987 wrote:No. They're similar but not the same. I doubt that Fender has their own string factory, so they do the same thing, have one of the few actual string factories make them specially to their own specifications...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: Flats
NO, THEY'RE NOT! I have played both. The new Fender flats are definitely NOT chromes. They have a different feel, different widths of windings on the strings, different sheen to the metal, and most of all, different tone. D'Addario chromes are hollow. The new Fender flats growl.VRICKY63 wrote:The new Fender flats are Daddario Chromes.
Re: Flats
Is any one of you Fender 9050 users set up to maybe provide a soundclip of this "growl"?iiipopes wrote:NO, THEY'RE NOT! I have played both. The new Fender flats are definitely NOT chromes. Re: Flats
I think Cassius has some clips with him using them. If not, we should ask him to put some up as he always picks such great things to play when he demos stuff.jamespaul71 wrote:+1 would like to hear itbigbajo60 wrote:Is any one of you Fender 9050 users set up to maybe provide a soundclip of this "growl"?iiipopes wrote:NO, THEY'RE NOT! The page is not pretty because it's fairly new. But all the clips posted are 9050Ls. For "growl" I most recommend "I'm Like That". I'll upload more songs later as well.

I think my 9050L clips are limited to 10-11 songs... I have so far posted 3 of them at the link above. I hope I picked the right ones! Thanks for the support Jason.Low End Lover wrote:I think Cassius has some clips with him using them. Say , how's your 4001C64S Jetglo hanging? I played my Matte Jetglo last night and loved it.

The power is in the zero fret and reversed headstock! Thank you Mr. Hall!!

If Mozart were with us today, he'd play a Fireglo 4001C64! ~~~*~~~ Beethoven, on the other hand, would play a Matte Jetglo 4001C64S!

I've got a set of Fender 9050 Mediums on my '76 Precision fretless and they do growl quite nicely.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?

This thread is reminding me a that old gasoline commercial - "Put a Tiger in Your Tank!"FretlessOnly wrote:I've got a set of Fender 9050 Mediums on my '76 Precision fretless and they do growl quite nicely.

Anyone here recall that classic?
