Keep us informed on the repair's progress, Bert. I find this very interesting.

I might write a story about it in the basses department once it is finished.

Please do - it adds to the knowledge base (bass??

) besides being interesting to watch one restored to glory.

I would think that once the neck has been removed, that very thin maple shims would need to be glued to the bottom and all three sides of the neck pocket, afterwhich the pocket is VERY precisely re-routed so that the neck sits straight and level in the pocket once re-glued.

What I understood the neck will go out first. Then he will decide if there is either enough wood left or other actions are necesary. I have forwarded your response. Thanx for it by the way!

The answer was not blowin in the wind, but:
"Ik moet sowieso shimms gebruiken om de hals recht te krijgen. Weghalen van
hout zou de pocket te zwak maken en bovendien zou de hoogte van toets ten
opzichte van de body te klein worden."
Google translates this to:
"I have to use the neck anyway Shimms duty. Removal of
wood would make the pocket too weak and would at the height of key
relative to the body too small."
Our dutch word "toets" has several meanings. One of them is fretboard.

As the owner, you had to have a weird feeling when you first saw that picture Bert. But that is what you needed. Looks like it came out cleanly. It will be interesting to hear your luthier's evaluation of why it was crooked.

If true, why no photo of the body?
