A 2010 330 for about $1500 used or a 2001 330 for $950. Both Jetglo (would have liked Fireglo somehow as 1st choice). :?

I could do either. Is one a better year or value than the other?

Thanks again. May drop the hammer tomorrow on one!!!

Hi Jack, I own a 330/6 JG (from around '95) which still looks and plays as new, so I would go for the lower priced uption. Don't worry about 'better years' or something; there are no bad Rick years, in particular regarding 330's. Look at Johnny Marr playing his 330 JG on youtube and you will be very happy with your choice.

Best wishes,
Kees

Yeah, but Johnny's 330 had X-bracing!! :)

Still, I would get the cheaper 330 and save the rest towards a 12 string.

I would get the cheaper 330 - if it's in decent, playable condition, of course.

I'll see if the deal can come together on the 2001 model under $1000 then. If all goes well I'll have it on the way next week.

Thanks for the help. Any other opinions keep them coming in. I may get this and go for something else to add to the collection too.

It would really depend on the sound and playability of the individual guitar. If the 2001 was in really good shape, I'd say snap it up. But it someone has played the snot out of it, and it needs new frets...

If all goes well I'll be a proud owner of a Ric 330 JG in about 2 days. :D FedEx Ground just picked it up and it's on it's way here. The owner said, and the photo's look that way too, that he just never really used it but a few times to record with in the studio. Close ups looked REALLY CLEAN so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. New looking case too! Didn't look like any fret wear at all.

I will keep until a great FireGlo comes along that I can trade our buy. Still will keep looking for a 325 or 320 JG for my Beatles/CCR guitar. Thanks everyone for the advice. Keep your fingers crossed for me too.

still wrote:Jack, there are 2 potential problems with a 330 as your first Ric:
  • You might like it so much, you abandon your plans to get anything else
  • You might like it so much, you give up on food and rent, so you can buy more Rics
I fell into the second trap, myself (well, OK, I continued to pay the rent).

Jack --- Congrats on acquiring your first Ric ! Acquiring a clean, well-taken-care-of second-hand Ric, at a good price, makes everyone happy ! :D :D

As if often said on this Forum -- JetGlo Rocks !!!

You will certainly not be disappointed with your 330. I absolutely love mine, even though I always wanted a 360 and have both now.

RAS will set in.....defo!

By the way, we always like pictures!!

My 1st Ric arrived!!

YeeeHaww. My JetGlo 2001 330 just got here. I waited till the case warmed up and then slowly warmed up the guitar w/case part open. Just got it out and it's in perfect shape!!!! Needs a good cleaning/polishing and tried some light rubbing compound (for acrylic plastics) on the VERY FINE scratches, what few it has. They come right out. Just fantastic. Plugged it into my Vox AC15C1 and it sounds good. I kind of expected more chime (almost sounds like my Gretsch Duo-Jet a bit). Is that because I'm thinking toasters (listening to The Beatles vs what are these (hi gain ) pups?

Anyway, the person treated me fantastic with things and I got in at a great price. Way below Flee-Bay prices. Still on the hunt for a FireGlo & a 320 or 325 JG for the mix.

I guess I can't add any photo's here. Been trying for the last 30 mins & even though I made them the smallest Photobucket would do, it says basically the photo is too large. I believe it's only 120x240 or something small like that. Oh Well, it's really clean.

Congrats Jack!

It is great that at last you know what it feels to play a real Rickenbacker.

The first RIC I ever played was a late 70s JG 330. I ended up with a 620 though...

You could always put the images in Photobucket or flicker and just link to them here.

Congratulations once again..

PS Brian, I had a friend that lived in Hamilton when I was in High School (long time ago). I'd like to try to find him again. Just noticed it on your post location. We just about drowned in Lake Ontario when the waves swamped out 18' canoe. Coast Guard had to rescue us. Good thing I had Boy Scout Merit badge training on canoeing and keep us afloat till they got there. If I'd only studied and got the "don't be stupid in the canoe" advanced merit badge I wouldn't have got into the mess to start with. :D

Enjoy it -- you'll be able to get plenty of Beatles tone with that 330 :D
