I know the seller personally--he is a friend of mine that lives near my location and is also a drummer, so there is no way he would have known about the damaged part being the way it is....what do drummers know.. (j/k!!) He was selling this bass for a friend who needed the money.

Anyway, this is an easy fix for sure. The money spent on this bass is going for a good cause, and once the part is replaced you'll be ready again...

This is not a charity if you paid a premium price for a subpremium guitar get a full refund or see if you can get a rebate.the seller has a responsibility to list any defects, friend or no friend.good luck with that

Let's be clear on one thing.

I am positive this bass was not sold intentionally with defects present...... It is not a case of trying to bilk the buyer or anyone else out of hard-earned money, so it is wrong to infer that this is happening.

It would be worth the effort to make contact and try to rectify the situation either fully or to a point, yes....but we are not talking about a small fortune here, only about $10 with shipping as Dane said. What is easier and quicker.

The 'seller' in this case is NOT the actual owner of this bass, he doesn't even play bass....and it is entirely possible that even the rightful owner didn't know of this alteration.

I didn't accuse anyone , I simply stated that the seller has responsibility on items he sells.if the seller sells for someone else the Seller still is responsible for the product he lists,not the buyer,as a eBay seller and buyer I understand both sides of the coin.I don't think the buyer should run around trying to find parts to an item that was suppose to be complete. The seller should be contacting his friend to work something out.the buyer has an option to back out of the deal through the buyer protection program,but only as a last resort, communicate with seller to see what he is willing to do.

Backing out of the deal ... to much time and trouble. Get the new part or superglue whatever... fix it and be done. Playing the damn thing is the most important thing here. Don't worry - be happy! Hell I have done things to basses zipped 'em up and played... then years later I open it up and remember that I had done it (a mind is a terrible thing to waste). In my mind the washer implies that someone saw a crack and wanted to relieve stress there or wanted a little more height with that side of the pickup. not a biggie. fix it and enjoy it!!!

Wow.. I didnt want to start a controversey.. I have called Rickenbacker, sent them the photos I posted earlier and we have placed an order for the correct replacement parts... (Richard at RIC thinks it was modded...ummm yeah I 'd say so BTW Big Thanks to Dane Wilder for the correct part number that is not listed on the web site!!!!) which came to about $46.00. They will ship me the goods asap and all will be well and I will have the correct configuration of the bass again. I have contacted the seller and sent him the pics as well. I am awaiting his response. I have not accused him of anything, just brought it to his attention and see what he has to say. I find it hard to believe that someone didnt realize what was wrong as it was very evident when it arrived. It is possible that it happend in transport, as there is a right way to prep a guitar for shipment and a wrong way. This was very much the wrong way. Bottom line,... I am so glad to have bought the bass, I have no intention of returning it. I suppose I wouldnt mind a refund to cover off the cost of buying the parts but if he does not cough up.. I won't lose sleep over this. Why would I? I am the proud owner of a CS4001 limited edition .... YEAH BABY!!!!!!

In which case it would have been made from a bar of aluminum stock stamped ALCOA

Two of my aluminum plates have "Harvey" on them.

Can anyone else see them?

Brian, great news. Form the $46, $8 of which is shipping, $38 will be for the plate, screws, springs, and such. I'm guessing.

The plate is $7 and is listed in the "Miscellaneous" category of the boutique.

The part has been upgraded recently; not only was a new mold made, but the part was also completely CAD/CAM re-engineered to make it fit slightly better. The material was upgraded from ABS to a glass-filled acetal blend for more strength and lower resonance.
