I like the G&P version a bit better than BD's as well. I love Darin's material, but I thought the strings were a bit over the top for my taste on this one. :)

I'll be there: The Pacemakers' version was a favourite with me back in the mid-60's. It was one of the first 4 45's i owned (I Feel Fine, I'm Alive and What Have They Done To The Rain the other 3).

There's a twist to this one. Doris Troy is an American-but lived in London!

Doris Troy really is terrific. There was a lot of soul in that voice.

What a great singer Doris Troy was. Her records for Apple really are great.

I have to take Doris over the Hollies due to that smooth, silky and soulful voice. The Hollies record is great but a bit shrill to these ears. Ah, poor old Eric Haydock. Nobody could find a bass for him to play on during the lip sync of this video?

Check out this single by Troy with George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Ringo, Billy Preston, Klaus Voorman and Stephen Stills.

Fender Bass VI - it was good enough for Jack Bruce... (not to mention John and George :) )

.... and so it is. I hadn't realized that they weren't a latter 60's development. Back into the corner with me ... again.
