Some serious modding!

Yes, I'm not responsible for the brdige or pickup mods on the 4001 and I intend to restore it to stock. I do not have those stock parts.
However, I did have the 3001 modified to a Badass, Duncan & Schaller "upgrades"?". Like most 19 yr olds, (as I was at the time in 1977) I was convinced I could make anything better by adding my touch to the situation. I do have the stock parts for the 3001. Does anyone have advice regarding how I might obtaiin stock (or suitable replacements, if there is such a thing) for the 4001 pickups & bridige?

Oh and both basses are strung as B-E-A-D, and I dont know the manufacture of the 4001 bridge. When I get better pics up maybe someone can identify it? It is made from solid brass??

There is always ebay for original, vintage 4001 pickups, but I like to put in a good word for Brad Burt. He makes some very nice 4001 replacement pickups, in which he has implemented extra shielding and some other alteration (moving screws etc.) to reduce noise. Great guy, very helpful. He’ll wind to whatever ohm rating you like, and will chat with you to fulfill your own personal desires for tone etc.

The brass tail piece and bridge on my 4001 is by "Stars Guitars” Who ever that is/was ??

Welcome Tom. Do you remember getting the Stars Guitars bridge? It is the second or third I've seen here on RRF.

Actually that brdige was on the 4001 when I purchased it used in ~ 1985 I think. Things are still a little blurry regarding those years!

Having realized that I can't afford (or perhaps ever find) a 3001 FL, my first foray into the fretless adventure began last Friday for a little less cash outlay. I picked up this beater Yamaha FL for $100. It is a pleasure to play and very challenging and rewarding. (I did post this under the non-Ric section also).

That adventure into non-Ric fretless realm resulted from my recently acquiring a non-Ric 8 string. Not knowing what an 8 string was all about I acquired the one shown, used, from a guy on craigslist for $250 plus shipping from NY. It is an eye opening experience with the anticipation of a 4008 in my future
