New YES Album.."Fly From Here"
Re: New YES Album.."Fly From Here"
I have always liked Steve's 'damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead' attitude. Looking forward to the coming tours hope I can catch one..

Well, I am new to the forum and with my 1st post...why not comment on the new YES album!!
The other night, I heard the bonus track version from the Drama album, and the Horn/Downes version of "Fly From Here". Neither version did much for me, and I can only hope the other tracks on the album will be more Drama/Tormato like!! Watching Yes on You-Tube with the current line up is okay...BUT I really miss Jon and Rick!! Looking forward to giving the new album a listen...and a Chance!! PROG-ON YES!!!

Re: New YES Album.."Fly From Here"
Steve Howe is on good form in that interview thanks for posting that.
I shook hands with Steve at a SHjazz trio show in Morecambe a few years ago.
Steve was a bit wary of my firm bass guitarists grip and said "careful with the hand" to which I replied "you think you have problems..check MY fretting hand" ..my left hand was in a plaster cast.
I think he is right to criticise the soundbite method of rendering various Yes songs that Jon and Rick have done in their shows.
It doesnt do justice to the song and its not what the audience want really because the actually want the whole of Yes to be up there pounding away.
I am with Steve on TFTO and I am glad Yes never (so far) did a condensed version which is what Rick hinted they should have done back in the 70s.
As much as I like Rick and admire his music I have always found it difficult to understand how he can deride TFTO and cannot bear to play "To Be Over" or any tracks from Relayer album bearing in mind he had to play stuff that Tony Kaye composed and still does "Starship Trooper".
I know he doesnt want to play any Moraz stuff but really when you listen to that arrangement on "To Be Over" its impossible not to admire the layers and textures of the (mid 70s!) keyboards so whats that about?
In all as I say I love the music that RW brings to the Yes history but he has also been a destructive element in the lineup over the years as well as a genius and thats Yes in a nutshell.
I wish the current lineup all the best with the new album.
One more thing on the subject of unwarranted criticism......
I noted that on the comments under the headline page of the article someone had criticised Jons pronunciation of the word "ideas".
Jon is from Accrington in Lacashire and along with people from Preston Burnley Blackburn and Bury it is part of their regional accent to pronounce "ideas" as "idears"....they roll their "rs" in very much the same way as they do in regions of the USA.
You can take the man out of Lancashire but you cant take the Lancashire out of the man.

Re: New YES Album.."Fly From Here"
i always thought Jon's accent was pretty endearing, ackshully. I disagree a bit with Steve's statement,in that i don't mind hearing a truncated /alternative version of any yes music, yes used to do it themselves, with Jon singing "leaves of green" as a short solo,or for that matter, Steve's very shortened solo acoustic version of "to be over" from recent shows.(which i enjoyed immensely) i did find it a bit strange for him to say "if you do that, you are not my friend"..... i love the man and his music,so what if he thinks OOALH is pop fluff,i really like that song as well. opinions are just opinions,in my opinion....
i am looking forward to hearing the album, plus whatever else floats up from the various YES guys....

Re: New YES Album.."Fly From Here"
Well with all of that all I can say is I think we are dealing with some very big egos here (I don’t mean that in a negative way). How could you pull off what these guys have done collectively and individually without having some very strong opinions of themselves and their likes and abilities? And like a lot of folks sometimes you say what you feel and then a while later what you feel changes. Not a big deal. They each have their paths to follow. I'm just glad they are still cranking out music!

ronbo agrees with...
i love the way jon pronounces "singing or singer" with the emphasis on the "g" as in "sing ging" or "sing ger" ! i always thought that was different and cool !
would also love to hear the nights in the opening of the tfto tour when they blasted all four sides down the fan's throats ! that would have been something.

Re: New YES Album.."Fly From Here"
Back in the 70s, I heard them play all 4 sides live, but not at the same concert. It would have been great, but there would have been no time for the other great tunes they always played also, like AYAI. Now GOD live, there was a tune!BAD RONBO, KiLLeR DWaRfS wrote:would also love to hear the nights in the opening of the tfto tour when they blasted all four sides down the fan's throats ! that would have been something.

That was my first Yes concert, February 1974. They played all of CTTE, all for sides of TFTO and Roundabout. Great show!
Tony, you should drive up to Orlando tonight for the freebie!

Thought about Jim, I really did, but it's an open air FREE street concert. Been there, done that. I'd love to come and visit, but I'm HOPING for Tuesday in a much more quiet and quaint environment.
No doubt its going to be crowded. Getting a wheelchair through all that is hell. Janey gets elbowed, kicked, butt-bumped, and burned by cigarettes..... and I get MAD as hell.
