Thanks again for the thoughts everybody.

Rick, I'm sorry about your cats. Amber's approx 15-16. She came to us via our next-door neighbours and to them via friends of theirs so we're not exactly sure. The family's previous cat lived at my mum's until she was 20 so this feels kind of young to me.

Eden, I'm also terribly sorry to hear of yours. Amber is in the very early stages of kidney disease hence the regular checkups and this just came out of the blue. In the last year and a half we've had Amber's thyroid/kidney problems (and now this), I nearly lost my 80 year old step father twice with a recurring blood infection that wasn't properly treated, my sister had a cancer scare which luckily proved to be false but in the ensuing operation one of her kidneys was so badly damaged that she had to had to have another op to remove it, my brother (estranged for 25 years) had a near-fatal car-crash and my 79 year old mum has been trying to deal with it all. My heart goes out to all those people who suffer worse as Im struggling to cope as it is.

Anyway, sorry everybody......back to basses!!!!!!

An 11 out of 10 for the Azure. Another instrument for the corker files. :D

I am reminded of this exerpt from Thoreau.
... as if we could be satisfied with the dews of the morning or evening without their colors, or the heavens without their azure.” -Henry David Thoreau
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Congrats, Shaun!
I'm still on my quest for "The One". It sounds like you have "The Two"!

Maybe Kevin, maybe.....it's only taken 30 years!

Actually, this Azure is only the 2nd Azure '72 with these vintage appointments that I've ever seen for sale, the other being the one that belonged to Mike G. I've never seen a pre-skunk one in my life.

BTW, may have to use that quote Peter!

Thanks Bert. I suspect you've got enough blue Rics to keep you happy (or are there never enough?)

Andy, that's exactly what our guitarist said.

One thing; the holes in the tuners where the string goes are kind of blocked off, so the hole itself is really shallow. Has anyone else seen this before? It's new to me.

Well, Amber didn't make it, sadly. We lost her 2 weeks ago and I haven't felt much like posting since; it's hit me hard. Thanks for the thoughts everyone who posted.

The Azure is still awaiting pro set-up etc; hopefully that'll be done soon. It's a weird thing because now it'll forever be tied into her final days; I hope it serves as a positive and not a negative.

I didn't see this thread until this morning, and I'm so sorry to hear about Amber. We have three cats. Ollie is the oldest (at just five years), and he's already been through quite a lot--we got him as a 2-week old kitten that had been run over on my college campus. Any animal you live with, cat, dog, bird, reptile... can become a huge fixture in your life. It's especially hard to see them suffer, because unlike adult people, they are difficult to stay mad at or resent, kind of like little children. When Ollie developed pancreatitis a year ago I remember getting a lot of support from RRF, as I sold some parts to pay his vet bills, and some of the buyers even told me they were at least partly motivated just to help take care of Ollie. He got pancreatitis again this year--but we knew what to do right off the bat and avoided a vet bill.

I'm so sorry you lost Amber. We lost a cat before acquiring Ollie's two younger siblings, a guy we named Levi, who was probably the sweetest animal I will ever have known. He died of liver failure at just two years. I took it badly, but my wife took it a lot worse, as he was her sleeping buddy when I wasn't around, and she was very sick at the time and the fact that he would sleep on her stomach every night was a huge comfort to her. I don't want to tell you any cliches to make you feel better, because it isn't that simple, but I do want you to take some comfort in knowing that even though Amber can't be with you any more, she's finally at rest. That's what I still tell myself about Levi occasionally when he pops into my head.

I'm shocked (and delighted) to see there are a lot of animal lovers here. I often get really frustrated watching TV or reading comments elsewhere online and noticing the callous or dismissive attitude a lot of people have towards life that isn't human. It's nice to know that there are plenty of others out there who love our animal friends.

Sorry to hear this Shaun. May the AZG give you as much consolation as can be.
