This was a 2004 model that was Tom Murphy aged. I kept it completely stock because it was just a monster in every aspect. It really hurt to part w/ this one because this was the guitar that I'd spent 20 years looking for in terms of coloring, figure, neck profile and tone.
This one was a rare 2001 Murphy R9 that was one of 40 made that year w/ a documented Brazilian rosewood fretboard. Had a tone like Dickey Betts' "Fillmore" Les Paul and a playability that was off the hook; AND it weighed a mere 8 POUNDS, non chambered or weight relieved. As good as it was though, the 2004 smoked it; I got $10K for it when I finally sold it in 2008.
