Catalinbread's amp-like pedals are really great. I have a modified Dirty Little Secret and am very tempted by the WIIO and Formula No. 5. And now they do this!

I'd be interested to know how the CB30 sounds with a Ric 6 string + Hi Gains.
Here is the official web page with a nice picture of the pedal with a Ric headstock behind. These guys have got taste!

I love Catalinbread pedals. In terms of quality and tone they're right up there with Janglebox, who are probably the best in the business.

Well, Nick (main designer for Catalinbread) frequents one of the pedal DIY forums. There was a discussion/dissection of the DLS and he chimed in with some ideas. The original DLS had a small cap bypassing the gain control (sort of like the bright cap on Fender amps). At some point his partner, Howard, studied some Marshall schematics and came up with the idea of switching in a much larger "bright cap." The result is a big gain boost in the mids and highs without being muddy. In the DLS v2 (not the new Mk II) they added a little slide switch inside to enable this mod. Unfortunately it requires removing the back cover to change the setting, so it isn't super useful.
On the forum he suggested a three position switch with bright cap, big (boost) cap, and no cap (dark--good for Teles and Strats or in combination with "RAWK" which can be a bit harsh). That is what I implemented on my DIY version. This one switch adds a whole new set of tones to an already great pedal.
Back to the CB30...I wish they had a lower gain demo, too. I guess now that its been released something will eventually appear on the 'tube.
