Thanks! It is a clone of the 4001 I owned in the early 80's, but with none of the "issues" that bass had. While I fell in love with this color, I really do like all the colors of the 4003. I saw a mahogany colored sunburst bass, either 4001 or 4003 and I was floored. if Rickenbacker were to offer it as a standard production, I'd have t have it! Oh that and an a Shadow! Oh and a midnight blue. The list never ends! :D

Ah Sepp, Sepp, Sepp, methinks you're coming down with the first symptom of RAS (Rickenbacker Acquisition Syndrome.) But don't worry. Everyone on the forum has it to a greater or lesser degree. It's endemic, you see.

My name is Gary, and I am a Rickenbacker addict ...
The 'Baker's Dozen' ... now outdated!
The 'Baker's Dozen' ... now outdated!
And what's worse, I am really a rhythm/lead guitarist, only just a hack bass player ...

Gary,

Gott in Himmel! That is an outstanding collection of Ric basses you have there!
Are they all factory colors and if so where does one find the more factory exotic color Ric basses for sale?

What is the official name of the dark brown sunburst one?

Does Rickenbacker still offer 4003's in exotic color combinations??

I also see you have a shadow in the stable. Very very nice!!

I realize I may have exceeded the normal allowable amount of questions per thread but my mind was working way faster than my typing!!

Gary, Rickenbacker has had many colors through the years, some are evergreen (always avialable), and some available for long periods, others very short periods. For an enjoyable read and glimpse of ALL the colors used since the bass was developed in the late 1950s, go here:

Each one on the list has a link to the discussion of that color. This will end up being a part of my forthcoming book. Enjoy!

Bassduke49,

Thanks for posting that wonderful line up! I'm going to earmark that for sure and use it to reference the various colors offered. So, some of these colors sometimes do make it back into circulation in new 4003's once and a while? When they do come up for sale, where can one find out where they can be bought??
Also please do keep us posted on your book. It's something I'd like to buy.

Sepp
