Leave it alone. Store it as described.

There's a lot of other wear and patina, but unless you're going to do a complete and proper restoration, don't do anything, and what you see is not serious, as long as you keep it well from now on.

IMO.

Christopher, welcome to the Forum and to the wonderful world of Rickenbackers.

Since you live in our Los Angeles area, we would like to invite you (and your 50's Ric 425) to meet and greet fellow Forum members and Ric enthusiasts at our upcoming Confluence ---- SCARF (the seventh annual Southern Calif Annual Ric Fest) being held on Saturday August 6th at The Starting Gate on Katella Ave. in Los Alamitos, across from the Race Track.

Here's the thread: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=400806&start=165#p700808

You will be able to meet some of the knowledgeable collectors like Gary and Paul W. etc. and dig deep into Rickenbacker lore and appreciation. Maybe if you're up to it, you might want to dust off your chops and join in some of the Rickenbacker jams that will be going on all day ! :)

Hope you can join us and we would all enjoy seeing that 425 in person at SCARF ! There are dozens of threads in the Confluences section with pictures and postings from prior events and Mini Cons, of what takes place as these gatherings ..... feel free to ask any questions on our SCARF thread.

Thanks Paul. I understand the beauty of patina, leave it alone it is.

Thanks for the invite Rich, I will consider it. But I don't know about me playing, it's been a very long time since I touched a fretboard - and even then, it was just to pluck around on. My primary instrument was the piano, and the only instrument I can still play these days is the stereo  But I may come down. I'd be interested to know more about this guitar, how much of it is original, narrow down a year, etc...and get to see some beautiful instruments. Always loved Ricks, but I guess thats natural being a Beatles fan.

Thanks again all. If any would like to contribute to my education of 425's, I'd be grateful.

Re SCARF -----No need to worry about playing abilities or how "rusty" you may be or if anyone is feeling self conscious. This is a low-key group of folks who love Rickenbackers and you are welcome to do whatever you feel inspired to do. The Confluence is going to have a seperate display room with tables for guys to show their Rics, for general chatting and comparing notes or learning about this and that. A seperate stage is in the general restaurant area of The Starting Gate. Check out these previous RRF threads -

The recent "End of the World Jam" we had in May, because if the world was going to end that day, and if there was going to be a Rature, we prefered going to the afterlife with a Rickebacker in hand ..... viewtopic.php?f=15&t=401241&start=0

Just for comparison purposes... :o :o

Here is a 1957 Combo 400 in fireglo for sale for $1200 (which to me seems cheap)...

This one is about a year and a half older then yours I think... It has the earlier style pick ups and the sax strap hook.

Hey Rich, I'm probably going to be able to do this. I'm interested in collecting info on this guitar and this is probably a very good place to do so. Thanks again for the invite, and maybe I'll be able to get in contact with you before the event.
