Ah, great point! I will be adding new wings on, cutting the old teardrop shape off, so it would make sense to route before attaching, nice and easy.

So, new wings and bind? A perfect opportunity.

Would it be possible to add binding to a 450 (or 610, for that matter) without having to replace the body wings? I've thought about a 450/12 -to- 460/12 conversion but thought the upper body contouring might prevent the addition of binding.

That's correct. The rounding-off of the body contours would preclude binding any cresting-wave Rick without a slab body. Collin's very early 450 is a slab body.

This Blue Boy WB was formerly a beat up, Jetglo 330, converted by Dale Fortune awhile back:

I was originally going to keep the guitar Jetglo with the refinish, but decided on Blue Boy. I have replaced the vintage knobs with "oven knobs" since this photo was taken.
The guitar is wonderfully light and resonant, and the 9.5" radius, slimmed down neck, and medium tall frets make the guitar a joy to play. I was initially dissatisfied with the sound of the guitar, but after installing a set of Sérgio Silva 14K overwound bridge toaster and 12K neck toaster, both with staggered height polepieces, the guitar sounds fantastic! It has Sérgio mojo!

You can hear Paulie's Blue Boy WB with the Sérgio mojo on this recent Glendora's video from the 4th of July block party :)

That's a Jetglo 4004Cii in the video. Yes it is a very sweet bass! Dane Wilder (aceonbass) offered to make me that pickguard, so I took him up on his offer. That's the mod. I should change the TRC to a white one, but I don't have an extra one. I refuse to pay some crazy price for a TRC from a parted out Rick on ebay.
RIC made one experimental prototype Jetglo 4001S in '67. It's one of my favorite RIC creations ever. That experimental '67 4001S can be seen on page 205 in the Rickenbacker book by Richard R.Smith. I wanted to make my 4004Cii look sort of like that.

For those who do not have the book this is a picture of me holding the experimental '67 4001S:

I wanted to see that bass at RIC's 75th anniversary weekend but John couldn't figure out where it was! That is my favorite Rick bass, too. I'd even be willing to swap my 4005WB for it.

Thankyou so much, that was an explanation I've been looking for for ages. That bass!, for a while now, it has been my plan to replicate that bass. This picture is like a missing link, thanks so much!

I suppose I could just modify my 4001V63 to replicate the experimental 4001S.
