It was like a Star Trek convention, all the old prog wizards in the audience! John Wetton's voice has always had a lovely "lived in" quality and that sounded great. His bass playing was definitely hampered by carpel tunnel syndrome and he had a thumb pick taped to his hand. Sadly, his HIwatts were nowhere to be seen and he had a plain old modern bass tone. Meanwhile, Adrien Belew has a power trio with a young girl form Philly named Julie Slick who totally recreates the patented Wetton Brontosaurus bass sound.
I've said too much and outed myself as a prog geek. I'm going to go say ten hail REMs.
I have seen Belew's Power Trio with the above mentioned Julie Slick.
Their music takes Prog. WAY out into the stratosphere!!!!!! You have to hear it for yourselves!!!!!
Julie is the new Chris Squire of the bass-guitar.....she is a vision of beauty, and a very cool person to talk with.
