Your post really did it for me. That 330 with those oven knobs is a real great look. I do believe that's the way I'll go. Dress up the plain Jane 330 with those knobs. I like that look a lot. Thanks.
I love it when a person searching for an answer reaches a great decision. You are welcome btw. I am glad to be of service.

If I were you, I would get a new 330 in any color you like...

FG is such an omnipresent Rick color-get something different!
Oh, that was the first (and easiest) decision I made. I will get a new Ric for Christmas and it will not be FireGlo!
Yes, FireGlo is the quintessential Ric color; but, yes, I already have a Ric in that color.
Honestly, I know I'll love the sound of any Ric I buy, so it really is coming down to looks.

Oven knobs look real cool on any of the pointed horn models like the 330 or an OS or WB !! 8)

My contribution to the cause of Oven Knobs enrichment is on this thread

That's an interesting thought. Something I might consider.

Weird thing about the lack of binding is I am not really bothered that much by no binding around the body. Rather it is the lack of binding around the soundhole that I find unattractive. Looks like someone took a jigsaw and just ripped a hole in the body. Looks very unfinished.

Hey, that's why forums like this are invaluable. I've learned it never hurts to ask a question at a forum (even one that comes down to personal taste) because I often get responses offering something I didn't think. Different knobs! Bingo. The plainess of the 330 disappears instantly with the addition of those fantastic, over the top oven knobs.

Look at the 360c63 or the 360v64. Pointy horns with binding!!! (on the front no less)

Tommy -- there are WBs out there which have no sound-hole binding. My 370-WB came that way. It seems that binding the sound hole was not a uniform procedure, all the time.

Can someone comment who knows the v64 line --- didn't they come with unbound soundholes too ?

The actual 360/12C63 does not offer a binding - if my can trust my eyes:

http://www.rickenbacker.com/model.asp?model=360/12C63

Let's see this way: no binding is more vintage.

But I agree in certain cases. The mapleglo for example looks a bit rough to me. Something is missing. Darker finishes do not need a binding in my opinion. But the surface of not binded models could be better. It is a bit rough, more sanding would be better and not difficult to do.

360c63 or the 360v64....I went to the Ric site and see those are no longer produced. They have a 12 string model - 360/12C63 - that looks like it has binding on the front, but I have a 12 string Ric already and am simply looking for a six string.

I've decided the 330 would be fine for me. I have a 360/12 so I know it would probably please me more to have a different body style. The 330 offers the classic Rickenbacker shape, but, yeah, it doesn't have the shark fin fret markers nor the binding. The 330 is a compromise really -- old school body styling, but no frills.

Now the 381V69 would be ideal. Binding, shark fin frets markers, pointy horns, gorgeous...but I priced one and it is far too expensive for what I am looking for. I have a 12 string Ric, I now just want a six string Ric to more or less kick around. That 381 is certainly not a kick around guitar.

Cosmetic alteration of a 330 is not unheard of...
