With regards to the 1996 Fireglo on the inner cover of the Direction Reaction Creation compilation, has anyone ever seen Weller playing this guitar? If not maybe it was it hired in to try to replicate the 1997 which he no longer has?

I've got a colour shot of it somewhere too - when The Jam played in the street outside a cafe with The Clash watching inside.
Nice one Mark, I had a feeling that you would come up with something. :D

I wonder if he's still got the 1997?

Hey, I try my best Rob :D

Here again but with a 2 pick-up arrangement and a strange excessive pickguard - covering damage or just the middle PUP hole?

I've not seen the 1997 at all Rob. He has said that he doesn't keep them if he doesn't play them, but there seem to be exceptions, including the 1996.

Unbelievable energy. One would have thought that a Signature model would have shown up for Weller by now. The over-sized guard would be something interesting to add.

Several Ric players have been more deserving of signature models, than say... Susanna Hoffs? However, I get where the Halls are coming from when they don't like endorsing any given artist these days; the name Rickenbacker is enough to sell guitars. 8)

Anyway, it would be nice if we could at least buy *new* 1997s again. Those guitars look good on Weller and others.
