I did the BEAD thing with a Peavey bass i used to own,and really enjoyed having the lower range available, didn't miss the g string at all. I am thinking of restringing my cii that way,it has such a powerful deep low end anyway,it should be pretty awesome sounding. As far as actual 5 string basses,i have played a bunch of them, and a couple of 6 strings, too, they are just not for me. My brain seems to be more attuned with going up and down the neck, instead of from side-to-side.

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

:) This really is so funny (I realize since I have your ex 4-2-5).

Snob is such an ugly, pejorative term; let's just say you have good taste in preferring Ricks. :D
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

"Uh, I like the double bounds. . . ."

Try playing an upright for a while... after that everything else will play effortlessly. Trust me on that.

I don't. It is the wrist angle which makes wide necks uncomfortable for me. For an upright I have to make far less of an angle. (I could offcourse have my bass at chest level but Rock and Roll should be played from crotch level i.m.h.o.. ;-))

I know exactly what you mean, often thought about buying a upright, havent had access to one on a consistant basis since high school, but wonder would it just be a watse and wind up selling it down the road from lack of play, dont think I would play it that much, had one of those electric uprights for a few years but sold it for that very reason..

I had a NS Designs CR4M that i bought from Mike Skiffinton a few years ago. I used it for a while but finally sold it as it sounded just like my fretless ZON, which was a lot easier to move, set up, and play.
