Re: Have I become a Rickenbacker snob?
I did the BEAD thing with a Peavey bass i used to own,and really enjoyed having the lower range available, didn't miss the g string at all. I am thinking of restringing my cii that way,it has such a powerful deep low end anyway,it should be pretty awesome sounding. As far as actual 5 string basses,i have played a bunch of them, and a couple of 6 strings, too, they are just not for me. My brain seems to be more attuned with going up and down the neck, instead of from side-to-side.

BEAD on a Cii is fantastic...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Snob is such an ugly, pejorative term; let's just say you have good taste in preferring Ricks.
There is no reason to ever be bored.

Former RRF member Jeff Rath,is famous for his five string conversions. You can probably find him talk bass.I know he's done a conversion or two for some forumites here.He does a great job.

Try playing an upright for a while... after that everything else will play effortlessly. Trust me on that.

Re: Have I become a Rickenbacker snob?
I don't. It is the wrist angle which makes wide necks uncomfortable for me. For an upright I have to make far less of an angle. (I could offcourse have my bass at chest level but Rock and Roll should be played from crotch level i.m.h.o..ilan wrote:Try playing an upright for a while... after that everything else will play effortlessly. Re: Have I become a Rickenbacker snob?
I know exactly what you mean, often thought about buying a upright, havent had access to one on a consistant basis since high school, but wonder would it just be a watse and wind up selling it down the road from lack of play, dont think I would play it that much, had one of those electric uprights for a few years but sold it for that very reason..ilan wrote:Try playing an upright for a while... after that everything else will play effortlessly. Re: Have I become a Rickenbacker snob?
I had a NS Designs CR4M that i bought from Mike Skiffinton a few years ago. I used it for a while but finally sold it as it sounded just like my fretless ZON, which was a lot easier to move, set up, and play.ricaddic wrote:...had one of those electric uprights for a few years but sold it for that very reason..
