I broke one a while back. I put Dean Markley SR2000s on my Yamaha BB300. Those strings have (or had, haven't bought them since) a taper going into the bridge. I was trying to bend the G-string like some of the parts on Cream's Crossroads (still haven't learned it) and it came unwound at the taper during one of my bend attempts.

Wow, I must really play like an ***! When my band was gigging regularly (once or twice a week) I'd break at least a string a month. Usually the E or A but a few Ds and Gs as well. This was on either my MID or MG 4003 and the strings were GHS Boomers (and some various other brands as well). I never found any burrs on the bridges either.

I only recall one or two breakages on my 4004s and those all have Chromes or Pyramids in gig trim.

Where's Joey Vasco? I'm pretty sure he's broken plenty of bass strings in those 20+ years of bass playing.

I haven't, but a guy I knew who played bass swore that it was possible. He said it was all depending on how heavy the gauges were, and he used pretty floppy gauges till he started using heavy Rotos.

Well, I dunno, I guess I must be pretty gentle, only breaking one in the 34 years I've been playing...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Once about 45 years ago. It was on bass built by the J. A. Pan Co. Those stings had a core, cloth, and then the flat wind.

Occasionally, and playing with either or a pick or fingerstyle. At one show I broke two strings in one set. It was nuts. I always carry spares. ..
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

A long time ago I broke a G or D string at a gig. I didn't have a replacement. I was 16 years old at the time, and the other band members were grown-ups. The keyboardist took care of me like a big brother. He reached into one of his carrying cases and pulled out a brand new set of bass strings. ("Here you go.") Without saying so, he had bought them for me as a backup. Lifesaver.

I broke a Rickenbacker G string tuning down just a few days ago. The moment I began to loosen the string, it snapped. The break occurred between the nut and the tuning peg, closer to the peg. I didn't have a replacement.

Not while playing, when I got my very first bass, I tightened the E string a little too much. Thats it. I plan to keep the labella flats on my hofner for forever. The longer they go, the deader they sound!
