I have both the Standard & Elitist Casino and love the Elitist. The standard is MIC and I'm slowly getting rid of any of my Chinese or Korean made stuff. In fact have my Standard Casino up for sale on Craig's list on the Gibson Forum for $450 shipped anywhere in USA 48 states.

When I play the Casino I just smile all the time. Just love the sound and ring it has. And it plays sooo easy.

I too would argue against the Bigsby on a higher-end Epi like that. I'm sure it would kill the vibrating top a lot more on a Casino that it would on a solid-block ES-335 etc.

Now...as for "elitist".....i'm such an elitist I won't buy one that wasn't made in Kalamazoo.

It certainly could! There are a ton of factors you could analyze here. The biggest though may be the fact that you have new zingy roundwounds on one and old dead flatwounds on the other. Next time you're going through a string change, do a *real* AB test with strings of identical type and age.

Yup...Could be any of those things IMHO. I didn't use to think that finish made all that much difference, but I'm more convinced that some of the more inexpensive poly finishes that are sprayed on thick, tend to "choke" off the tone of the guitar, even a solid body. Of course people like Henry Garza, whose guitars are all customized Mexican Strat bodies, make a liar out of me...

Awwww, nice place. Gibson factory still here and making guitars. Heritage though.

I agree with you John, but IMO you will only hear a difference unplugged. I mean, in a band setting, how much is it really going to matter?

Plunked around on my Casino a bit more tonight. It is louder acoustically then I thought! SO good plugged in. Just need to get setup figured out. Lots of buzzes. :/

The flats definitely play a huge part, but I recently had rounds on the Turq for a few weeks and didn't get this tone.

And mine is rattling like a garbage disposal too. I can't locate the problem.

*Not knocking anyone who enjoys wine and cheese, per se; I enjoy both myself.

JB - I've been thinking about this for a while, and don't think you're saying this, but its got to be more than just pickups. If the difference in finishes was just an acoustic difference, then we could take the pickups out of a '59 Les Paul, put them in a Studio and both would sound the same. I'm no expert, but the tone of a guitar (player technique aside...which is huge!) depends on so many things. Its not just the individual parts, but the sum of those particular parts together.

In a "band setting" where everything is very loud, differences will be diminished for sure, but I think the finish (among other things) will make a difference.

fully hollow, thin wood, thin finish and plenty of metal is a recipe for aural joy in my book. Guild Starfires are the same - really light, and, as someone said, 'lively' - you can feel the sound vibrating through them. Good Casinos are the same.

Question re. bigsby killing the sound though: why use a B7? couldn't you use a B6 which does fix in? I usually find Bigsbies are good for resonance.
