I noticed that too, but then, my standard these days is this one.

What month in '74? Maybe an early bass got the leftover?

Scott, no, a friend contacted me about trying to sell his bass and asked me to help him verify what it is and what it's worth.

The guy my friend bought it from owned it for about 12 years and it sat un-played and un-modded. So he bought it circa 1999, before there was Pickguardian or any other accurate pickguards for that matter. Of course, the plastic parts still could have been replaced. BUT, the pickguard is a perfect fit (all holes line up and there are no extras, plus its very old) and it's not like black plexi TRCs grow on trees! My gut is telling me that they are original here.

Jeff, can you post that photo that shows the progression of bass tailpieces? I want to verify which one this is. I have a pic of the underside.

This bass is from May of 1974 based on serial number verified by pot codes.

BTW, this bass sounds massive (can't BELIEVE the neck pickup!) and plays beautifully too.

I am not on my computer at the moment so I do not have the photo handy; I know that John Allgaier, and about 100 others on the RRF have it, too  so perhaps one of them can do so. I will not be able to do so, myself, until tomorrow evening. :(

Jetglo, checkerboard, black guards? I think this one qualifies as the earliest Shadow prototype!

Thanks Ken. The tailpiece on this bass is the one on the left. That's a good thing innit? :D

Those were all the varieties I had available to me when I made that photograph. Thanks for posting them, Ken. 8)

The gap-tooth on the left, during what years did they use that? Ended in '72 right?
