How much CS basses were actually made? About 2000 or less?

The total run was supposed to be 1000 instruments, but is has been noted elsewhere that there is a gap in certificate numbers and that around 800 or so were actually made.

I remember someone mentioning that. However if you check the RR Register and confine the search function to model 4001 and special to CS, you'll find that many registrants have posted their certificate numbers. They are spread out pretty well over the 11 year run, and it doesn't appear that there is any gap of 100 or 200. That's not to say there were fewer than what we assume is a full one thousand, but a shortfall doesn't appear to have come in large chunks.
