why do people insist on putting fender style pickups in ricks ??? if you want more bottom buy a bottom end bass like a fender or get a bigger butt !!! btw, jeff, i'm gonna spank you for the j-pickup thought !
howzabout throwing those metal thunderbird pickups on a rick...that should do some structural damage.

I don't know... I went the other way and put a RIC HB-1 in my custom P-style bass, and it sounds great....

OH, YEAH ??? well...i went the other way too... back in '79...when i built a p-bass body in school with a set fender neck...and installed the higain from MJ-4844 for more top end...so ...there !!!

I used to have a '72 Jazz Bass (that a friend of mine has, now) that I replaced the middle (neck) pickup with a hi-gain pickup; I, also, (with a LOT of trouble) sanded the Sunburst finish off and oiled the body, and put a Schaller roller bridge on it. Sounds great. My friend currently has a fretless neck on the bass.

Having owned a Dingwall for a spell, I actually think I prefer Scott's bass.

Having never played a fanned fret instrument, either would be cool for me to check out.

The first time I learned of the Novax system was on the Fleishman Scroll bass.

It's a really neat idea and the Dingwall system is great, but I think Scott's fretboard design (which if I recall he came up with and instructed Novax on personally) feels more practical especially in the high register. On the other hand the Dingwall system feels extra comfy down by the nut on the low strings.

Back to the OP's question about bridges, from the pictures of your bass, it looks like you could remove the BAII, pull out the wood plugs in the original routes, and put in a RIC tailpiece to restore it to original. They are sold on the RIC Boutique at the corporate site.

If you decide to go with the Hipshot one, leave the wood in the rout and put it on.

It's funny because I've been amazed at the low end in my '72. Since I've spent the last 15 years playing mainly Fenders, I expected the tone to be thin. It's not!

Factory RIC bass tailpieces are so expensive that I no longer buy new ones. Instead I find them on Ebay pretty reasonably. The chrome can be questionable, but considering the extensive mods I perform on them, it doesn't matter since they will be re-plated. RIC used to charge $75.00 before the Hipshot part came out. JH specifically mentioned that as the reason for raising the price.
