I'm jealous. I think I need to quit hanging out here. It's demolishing my self-esteem...

For me, it's dangerous to my finances... that's some beautiful MapleGlo, and it's making me look for excuses to own two Rick basses. If John Hall decides to let out a few 4003FLs I'll be in trouble (and my fretless Fender will doubtless feel neglected).

Just don't sell that 4001 you just posted pics of you playing through the years!
Keeping the '79 JG, John, but that FG was traded away back in the early '80's. :(

That Mapleglo is really calling to me.

Nice Mapleglo. All what is missing is the checkerboard binding!

Don't you worry, it is also missing on the 2011 Mapleglo I recently purchased. But do I wish the would come with this type of binding.

Ironically enough, the made in China Mapleglo copy from Tokai has the beloved checkerboard. Needless to say it is a sorry POS. Sadly anywhere else than the US and Canada, you see more of these copies in stores than real Rickies.

I've now had the instrument a couple of weeks and I very much enjoy the neck of the 4003, a bit wider and a very nice feel to it. Also the push pull volume pot is a new twist for me that I really think is great, the "in" on the bridge pu seems to be my home spot. there is a bit of volume loss when it goes to the "out" but it gives a great classic sound. Report card so far? A

That makes 2 two of us. I would find a way to buy one. And I might have to sleep in my car for a few nights.
