Really? You mean you saw through my undetectable ruse? Impossible!

For what it's worth, however, and all April Fooling aside, a friend of mine has decided to sell his '68 4001 MG which is basically just like mine. I'll post a link to his add once he speaks for himself, so watch this space!

However, I don't suspect he'll be offering it for the April Fool price!

Love that ambered maple and used look! That's one of my favorite basses on here.

I love that ambered MG as well. More than FG actually.. They look great from this period.

Love that tone as well. Squire's opening lines, faithfully recreated here, are simply his, and the definitive Ric bass sound in my honest...

Oh yeah! That's pretty close to my holy grail of Rickdom (I dunno, a 4002 is right up there too). If I'd thought Mark was really selling it for that price, I would have cancelled the BARC plans and been scrounging up bucks wherever I could...

Thanks guys! And well put on "definitive tone," Wints. Squire defined it for me too when I was growing up.

Funny about the '68 - definitely my fave of my basses, but occasionally I'll still get a little of the "grass is greener" syndrome when I see some of the other basses here with the super-exotic looking flame maple, birdseye & whatnot. But I'm definitely a fan of the deep ambered hue I've got as well. And ultimately it was the tone of the bass that had me sold in the first place. I picked it up from Mike Lull back in '96, and when I played it, I tried it out along side of an RM 1999 that he was also selling. Ironically, the '68 had "thee tone", and the RM sounded way harsh to my ears. Wasn't sure why exactly back then. It could have been that the RM had the .0047 cap yanked or bridged. The '68 had it in, and I think that is key in the original Rick tone. I've tried the '68 with & without that cap: I even put in a push-pull to get both tones for a short while, but realized that I preferred the capped tone most of the time, so put the original pot back in. But yeah - good thing I preferred the '68, because there's no way I could have afforded the '64 at the price he was asking!

I was ready to fork double the asking price over if it came with Walker mojo. Sure is a fabulous player.

HA HA! Thanks, Al. Yes! I forgot to include that in the pitch: "Comes with a free bottle of Walker Mojo"

Naw - the bass has mojo all it's own!
