I'd ask him why Paul didn't paint his bass black?

The bottom line is that John simply did not care about the guitar itself, just that it played. He would do whatever it took to get something to work the way HE wanted it.

George, on the other hand, wasn't that bad. He cared about the guitar, and learned to appreciate it for what it was (yeah, yeah, Rocky WAS refinished badly  ). You don't see his 360/12 with a Bigsby or black refinish!

I'd ask him if Tony Sheridan made him do that and what's with the suit?? Where are the leathers??

It looks much better in natural maple with the gold pickguard and nameplate. It would be fun to see that guitar, not sure if it's still in Japan. Saw his black Tele at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Annex in the city a couple years ago

Or throw that hideous violin abomination away and get a Rick bass.... or at least a Hofner Club

According to the Beatles Gear book Jim Burns only worked on the 325's wiring once. A local coachworks (bodyshop) did the black refin & pics of it shortly afterwards show a smooth, glossy finish. Of course it didn't take long for the edges to start getting scuffed, and it would seem that John occasionally touched it up himself. Don't forget too, the sheer amount of playing & traveling they did in those early days!

His '64 325 didn't fare much better either...
