I kinda' feel like when setup right, Hi-Gains are the best RIC pickups. There is a certain midrange element to them Toasters don't have. Hi-Gains are a lot more finicky than Toasters too in my experience, so they definitely require more patience to get the right sound out of them.

If HB-1s were a bit more "open" sounding I'd be hard pressed not to vote for them, too. But in a few weeks I should have two wired in parallel humbucking in one of my basses and that may help out a good deal.

According to John Hall http://www.rickresource.com/rrp/JHpickupanswers.html the resistance varied anywhere from 7K to 16K, though most folks on this forum gravitate toward 7.4K as providing that "vintage 60s" sound. Also checkout: http://www.rickresource.com/rrp/ohm.html.

@all: Please do not talk about "better". I like the sound of the 7,5k ones, even if a Hi-Gain or HB is "better", my ears like the 7,5k's best. - It just depends from what You are playing an from personal preferences - and do not forget the used amp, BTW!

RIC seems to have a similar opinion because actually they offer all types simultaneously.
