It would seem that the purpose this of guy's eBay buisness is to provide parts for various guitars and basses for repair or restoration. Fair enough.
In doing so, he has taken apart a complete, unaltered and original guitar with no issues-----which is what everyone would rather have anyway.....something without apologies.
Now, he has merely added one more instrument to that pile, and that guitar will never be what it was.
Yes, I Know. He could care less.

You're right, he couldn't care less. I sent him a message via Ebay basically giving him hell for parting out a perfect vintage instrument.
His reply...."ah the jealousy, grow up bud, they're just guitars."
No..they USED to be guitars. Now they are parts. I didn't mind that he was parting out newer guitars but parting VINTAGE instruments that were factory stock?? Whatever, "bud".

John: for what it's worth, the buyer's ID and feedback do not match up with gibsondependable, so he must have two user IDs. Can someone do that..??

Ebay doesn't care how many user IDs you have. Their only purpose is to run auctions to make money. I don't know if you can have more than one ebay ID for a particular email address, but you can have as many email addresses as you want...

I guess i'll be "that guy" and say that, if you had an emotional attatchment to it, I wouldn't have sold it. Once it's gone, this is all water under the bridge, isn't it? Maybe it goes to someone who has always wanted a Rickenbacker and finally has one and will play it every day for the rest of his life. Or maybe, it goes to someone who will hang it on a wall to look at and never play. Or maybe it goes to a guy who parts it out trying to make a profit.
It's all going to be dust eventually, enjoy it as much as you can while you have it and beyond that, well, there are more important things to get worked up about.

JSimmons, I'm very sorry about this. I don't have too much to say that hasn't already been said, except that karma will catch up to Ryan and he will pay for dismantling all those beautiful guitars, especially yours. The wound will heal.
Just promise me you'll never let this happen to your beautiful '64 360/12.

It was a great guitar, I owned for about 11 years. I did sell it and it went to a good home for about a year. No regrets in my decision from that standpoint.
I am attatched to every vintage Rickenbacker I see, whether I've owned it or not. I am on the side of preservation of these instruments; I would think that on this site that this would be the collective opinion of those who belong and participate in it.
Tearing apart one perfectly good guitar so that others might add a part or two in the quest to make them more complete makes no sense.
My point is this, and it is quite subjective: People should do everything in their power to keep people like this from getting vintage guitars and then deconstructing them for profit. This guy flies under the radar when he buys something, because if he tried it under his ID that everyone is aware of no one would sell him anything.
If someone would do this that belongs on this site, then IMO they don't belong on this site. Period. The mindset is totally counter-productive to why we are here.

Yeah, I can't get a grasp on it myself.
If a guitar say had a broken headstock at one time or was just in general a beater, and was obtained cheaply I can see parting out. A mint condition guitar? Makes no sense.
John, I cannot blame you for your anger.

John, I agree to an extent. I think an instrument should be played, and "gibsondependable" is clearly only interested in profit and his ebay business. I also agree that if he tried to purchase items under his real username, many people would not sell to him and for good reason.
To me, selling a guitar is selling a guitar. Parting with an instrument (espically one you've owned for 11 years) can be an emotional thing, and not something that I personally would do without the full understanding that the buyer may play it just as soon as he may part it out. When i've sold instruments, it's been with that mindset. If I wanted to "preserve it" I wouldn't sell it, because I wouldn't put that much faith in the potential buyer.

I bought some modern strap locks from this guy a while back for my 4001 at a cheaper price than buying from a dealer. I am quite happy with the purchase. I haven't had any bad experiences with the seller so I don't have any complaints.
This person buys guitars and then does what he wants with them. There's nothing wrong with it. When the profit dries up he'll stop. There's no retribution to be had (unless he's stealing guitars or involved in some other illegal behavior) since these are his guitars he is parting out.
The only way to stop this from happening is for players to buy every vintage/used instrument on the market and that isn't practical. Save the ones you can and let others do what they want with their property. Don't worry about it too much.

Why don't we all just start bogus ebay names, begin clicking BIN and never pay.
I think the guy will take the hint after awhile, no?
I completely agree that it's counterproductive to everything that the vintage guitar community stands for. It's one thing to circulate existing parts or distribute parts from a major project carcass, but quite another to ruin a perfectly good original instrument for what -- a few hundred dollars he'll make, at best?
Like, would you buy a classic car and then part it out to supply parts for other classic cars? Unbelievable....

I think this falls in the same category as lousy reality TV, sensationalist media, and American lite beer (*ducks and runs*). Despicable to many, but someone must be paying for it if it's profitable enough to be worthwhile. I think it's both stupid and sad this happened to a perfectly good vintage guitar. And for a very small profit, apparently, and that's if all the parts sell!

I'm sorry you hadn't heard of this guy before, he's a real ballbag. Some people on here have had dealings with him over parts not showing up, stuff like that.

Well, I didn't expect everyone would have the same opinion about it, which is okay.
As long as it was in my possession I could have control over the guitar's destiny----which ended last summer.
The lesson to be learned here is obvious....I need to have control over everyone and their guitars.

You'll thank me in the long run.
