I love "BR-R-R-R-AAING"!

How about a modeling amp, like a Roland Cube or a Vox Valvetronix. They come in all sizes and have tons of effects built right in.

Amp first. Maybe you'd like a Roland Jazz Chorus? They have chorus and tremolo effects built in. McGuinn used to use one and Marr too.
Tremolo or vibrato?

How about Tremato or Vribremolo like the circuit in my 1962 Concert Amp? 8)

The best "effect" for a Rickenbacker twelve is good playing technique, and a whole boatload of pedals isn't going to make up for lack of it. If you play it like you would play any other guitar, that's pretty much what it will sound like. If you practice until you can play it similarly to people who have made a name for themselves playing one, then that's a very different story. A JangleBox, maybe a little reverb, a decent amp and a good right hand are about all you really need, and about all that most of them used.

I like to use chorus, sometimes dry, sometimes with reverb. I also like to combine chorus, delay, reverb, and overdrive for something different. :)

Good point. I certainly do see lots of pedals all over the place, owned by guitarists that are not exactly a ball of of fire with what they can play. It looks like overkill sometimes.

Aha, maybe the lack of reverb is the root of that BR-R-AI-N-N-G-G sound that I don't like. If it comes out sweeter, now we're talking. I believe that once I home onto the right tone, it may be a whole new ball game. As for the right hand, its building up. This is after many yearrs of my hands being accustomed to a smooth technique on drums. But hey, a nice glossy finish guitar with some cool shiny metal on it sure beats hauling all that drum hardware around.

+1 because the original post talked about preferring a Beatles/Byrds/Hollies sound. The 'effects' are primarily in your hands and fingers. I have nothing against pedals and you need them for other styles but not to get the 60s sound. IIRC correctly the original poster said he already had the JB2 - that is pretty much all that is needed. Peace out.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but you really don't even need the Jangle Box.

Quoting from the other thread (on strings):
However keep the effects suggestions coming as pertaining to Ric 12 strings. I'm hoping the effects suggestions are from your playing experience, not just "what about this, or have you tried that.." So far I have chorus on my shopping list. I'm also considering delay, phase, flange, tremelo, and looper. But only adding 1 or 2 pedals more at a time. Also I'm debating on a volume pedal. It looks great to see a good guitarist kick the volume pedal to go into a nice lead.
You may want to look at the Vox Tonelab EX, which has a large variety of modelled amps/cabs and effects and retails for around $300 bucks. The modelled amps and cabs are excellent (for home recording, anyway -- I haven't tried lining them out to a PA), but you can also disable the amp modelling and use it as a multi-effects pedal board. It does all the things you list, and more besides. It also has an expression pedal that can be configured as a volume pedal or used to vary pretty much any effect parameter.

I've had mine for only a few months and haven't had a chance yet to fully explore everything it can do, but I've been able to get some pretty good sounds from my 620-12 using various permutations of compression, chorus, reverb and delay. While the built-in effects might not be quite as good as top-of-the-line standalone pedals, they're quite impressive for the price, and you also get all the amp models.

I run my 360/12 into the following : first stop is a Morley ABC box routed accordingly:Channel A is a Seymour Duncan TweakFuzz and Dunlop CryBaby (don't really use the crybaby that much with my 12er but it's there just in case)into a Vox AC4tv mini.Channel B is a Danelectro Fab Echo ,Fab Delay and Boss FDR1 '65 Deluxe Reverb pedal into a Fender Champ 110(converted to a head that powers a Fender 2x10 cab) and Channel C is into an Electro Harmonix Holy Stain, Small Stone and Small Clone into a Kustom Double Barrel. between Chorus, Flange , a little bit of grit, some tremolo and reverb I can come up with a very fun sonic scape... plus each effects assignment is specific to an amp so there is distinction of each sound :) It's the setup I use for all my guitars, but it really comes to life with my 360/12. one day I'll get a JangleBox..... one day ...

Sorry, folks, just my opinion. I am not much of a pedal guy.
That's what I thought too until I played mine through a Janglebox.

As much as I adore my JangleBox JB2, and as much as I've used it with all my guitars, particularly the 12-strings, I've discovered that my new Vox AC15 creates enough natural compression and chime that I can get by without any pedals. But, if I really want to nail an authentic Byrds sound, I run either of my 12-strings through the JB2 and into my Fender Princeton Chorus. 8)

here's a reverse delay (TC Electronic Flashback) with a 360/12...I really like this sound!

I play mine (and for that point all of my electrics) through a Fulltone Tube Tape Echo, and a Fulltone OCD v1 overdrive pedal. The TTE provides delay, sustain and reverb tone, while the adjustable OCD provides a tad bit of overdrive and a little more sustain.
These guitars do sound great w/o pedal assistance, however, I would advocate that you determine what is needed tonewise to fit in the mix, and then make a determination based on that need!

Good luck on your tone search!

Yes, thats quite a sound. Its unique enough that in a quiz, many folks might not guess its a Ric 12 string.
