Unusual for the 2 main Ric afterparts specialists here in the UK not offering them though?

Probably just haven't thought of it (or had anyone ask). I seriously doubt there are any sort of export restrictions on a part such as that, either by RIC or the government...

I have an Alpha switch that I fitted to a non-Ric bass, I might pop the pickguard off it and give it a measure to see if it will fit my 4001 without modification. If I ever sell the my 4001 I would probably revert it back to its original wiring configuration, hence me not wanting to drill the control cavity.

As of a week ago the RIC switch hasn't come in yet. We ordered from a local dealer rather than the boutique.

I can send you an mp3 of mine with the cap in line, however the bass also has a magnetic horseshoe pickup in it and a 7.4KΩ scatterwound toaster in it. Does sound great, though!

I installed new high gain pickups and all new pots, with the push/pull vintage tone switch, and pickup selector switch in my '77 4001 with no issues. I didn't need to remove any wood at all, totally plug and play.

I was thinking of trying this w/ my '65 4005 the bridge pup is useless as is

If the "old" Alpha push-pull is too tall for the cavity it can be made shorter by cutting of the lip at the bottom of the casing, and if necessary braking off the whole bottom and grind it down a bit.
The new CTS push-pull looks more solid though.
The nice thing about the Alpha push-pull is that it has a DPDT switch (while the CTS is SPST). Thus the Alpha can be used to switch in a different tone cap when the .0047uF is in line. Personal preference of course, but to me a .022uF or smaller is much more useful than a .047uF tone cap when the .0047uF is in line.

Unfortunately, no schematic came with my new push/pull switch. The drawing that someone posted earlier in the thread by johnallg is confusing to me in regards to the new switch.

Can anyone clarify it for me? I have a '77 4001 with the factory cap. The new push/pull switch has 2 soldering lugs on the top and 3 on the bottom. Which wires do I move and where to they end up and where do I add a wire?

Add a wire from each side of the cap to each of the two lugs. Transfer the wires from the old pot to the same places of the three lugs on the new pot.

Thanks, everyone! I have been lurking here for a few months now, gleaning everything I can about the world's best bass lol Of course. Joey's Bass Notes helped me tons as well until he pulled the plug. The Anatomy series was simply awesome! Kudos to all the hard work for that trove of information.

I am still in the process of getting my action set up better, almost there. Need to raise it just a bit. Still undecided whether to add the push/pull to the circuit. I received it from Rickenbacker last week, waiting to pull the trigger.

John, put the switch and cap in. If you don't like the way it changes the tone of the bridge pickup, just leave the switch down. It gives you options. It really is an easy mod, and easier with the new switch/pot RIC is using now.
