sleepingtiger wrote:Thanks Scott! I WAS planning on turning one of the tone pots into a middle pickup control with a push/push pot & leaving the standard wiring as is. My other alternative is to do 3 volumes W/push/push on/off switches with a master tone, leaving the 3-way unused. What is your suggestion?

Send me an email to wethreepopes @ suddenlink.net . With my mods, with a DPDT push-pull 500kohm control, you get the following:
1) all knobs and switches do their original functions, including the 5th knob pot, so anyone picking up the guitar won't hit the wrong switch or turn the wrong knob by accident in the middle of a song or set.
2) with the push-pull in, you get bridge pickup with the capacitor and the neck pickup, in classic 330/360/610 "vintage" configuration through the selector switch.
3) with the push-pull out, you get bridge pickup without the capacitor and the middle pickup. This gives two more settings with more drive, and the "sweet" setting of middle and bridge in parallel in the middle position of the selector switch.
4) the guitar passes the "five-foot-away" test, meaning you can't tell from looking that it has had mods done.

That's what I would call it!

Well, it's in the shop with Scott at Fat Cat Guitars in Elgin, IL. It's being wired as 3 volumes & a master tone control with push/push pots on the tone control to remove the cap from the circuit & the middle PU to switch it in & out. I'll get all 7 pickup combos with & without the cap for 14 total. 5th knob will be left alone to function as always. It should be cool!

I hope that works out well for you. As you probably gathered from my schematic, my goal was/is simplicity on stage so that all the knobs retain their original functions, because I don't like the neck and mid wired together at all, and to provide a reasonably expanded palette of tone colors that fit what most people play, vintage or modern.

Well, I got it back, after only 2 days after all parts arrived. OF COURSE, Scott did a wonderful job! It is now wired with the top/ front as bridge vol., top/rear is push/push switch & volume for middle, bottom/front is neck vol., bottom/ rear is master tone with push/push tone(cap) defeat. I notice absolutely NO difference between defeat & tone full, so I may turn it into a mid cut control, as I never really use a tone control anyway

. Would a different cap make a real/ positive difference? The 3-way & blend knob work just as they do stock, so I can get all 7 tone combos. I will provide a little better tone report, as I give it a little workout on the Mesa RKII ver.2. , but here's a couple quick pics & you'll notice that I'm certainly NO photographer

.
Thanks for all your help guys!

I did a little research & found that the .0047 cap was usually used as a bass cut cap on basses. Would it have the same effect on my 620? Would I be better off having a mid-cut circuit put in? As I said previously, I seldon use a typical tone control at all.
Thanks Again,
Tony

Yes it would, and it was also on the guitars.

Thanks Rich! It DOES look cool, huh? As for the cap...would the bass decrease as it was rotated clockwise? If so, that would seem backwards, to my sick mind

Hmmm....this is interesting!

I haven't watched parts 3 & 4 yet, but so far nothing about bass cut caps. AM I missing something? This is kind of embarrassing

Anybody , who really knows, care to explain the "bass-cut" cap(s) to this idiot?
