It's multitasking!
All details aside, it's cool to see Edge increasing his Rick usage.
(anybody else still have trouble calling a grown man "edge"? Same thing with Slash...)

Ron, your binding comment is hilarious.

I realize that you will always be bound by this comment.

That is highly debatable.

So, he will be called
Lost His Edge, from now on!

JDog.........perhaps change your stage name to Image. That way when you get older you can be called "Sharper Image" I am also picky about how the pickguards look. No pun intended btw.

Personally, I think RIC should have just used the same top guard for both 2 and 3 pickup models; it would avoid the necessity of making two different parts, and what does that tab-thingy really do wrt functionality?

....or just stick with a standard lower guard like Lennon's original '58 325. I think it looks balanced and is functional. Why bother adding a flying upper guard (either with or without the lip)?

That works too...

I don't think the Edge cares about the spacing either, if he even notices it; I think he's just happy to be playing a cool, custom Rick.
He has hundreds of guitars, and I'd be surprised if he pays much attention to minor cosmetic aspects of any of them.
Is that really true? Is it true that the Edge wouldn't notice or care about the pickguard spacing on this particular guitar?
My point is this. The Edge purchased this Ric, why? Are the specs on this Pearl White Rose Morris 12-string really so unique that he would have to have this one? Probably not. But are the cosmetics on this Ric so unique that he would probably want one? Obviously, yes. This guitar in the looks department sure is a rare bird, so the Edge most likely bought this guitar based upon its look. Therefore I'd say he does notice what all on that other thread noticed -- pickguard.
Not trying to start up that whole can of worms, just saying I suspect Edge bought this Ric based on looks and he would surely notice the details, good or bad.

Interesting points Tommy. I guess we'll have to wait and see if someone either from the factory or within the U2 camp (ideally the Edge himself) gives the full story about how this one-off special came about...and what discussion there was about the specification.

I'm not saying that he isn't digging the aesthetic, but there are not too many 330 bodies with wide 660 necks around.

When I bought the Ruby, I didn't even think about the front spaceg; I thought, "Cool, a RUBY c63, with SILVER guards-gorgeous!" I didn't notice the space between the neck p/up at first. I would have eventually, I'm sure, but not given it much thought, or would have figured it out. I wouldn't have even noticed it as soon as I did if it weren't for those who didn't like the top guard spacing on the UK Pearl Whites. In any case, it doesn't bother me; I could have had white guards and TRC instead, but I thought the silver looked killer, so I went with that. In any case, the space doesn't bother me one bit, and while the Edge likely perceives the spacing, I doubt he thinks it's "off" or different, or if he does, I doubt he cares about it, because the guitar is gorgeous, and looks, sounds, and plays great. That's what I meant in my initial post

+1!
As I understand it, he requested a larger bodied 12 string with a wider neck. The rest was left to Rickenbacker.
The factory certainly delivered a fabulous guitar and by all accounts he's totally thrilled with it.
I wouldn't be surprised to see this guitar feature in the press photos that will precede the new album/tour.
