That is really nice! By thicker 'D' you mean more chunky neck, right? If so, chunky necks are the best!
I really like the shading on the back of the neck/headstock.

Going by my knowledge and experience, '70s necks were thicker/chunkier than '60s necks but by no means are they chunky. They are my personal favorite feeling necks.

Quite right. By comparison, a 2006 4003 might have a way chunkier neck....
The 70-71 necks are just a little deeper, this might be due to the fingerboards being a little thicker.
Makes the bass feel a little more solid.

That and I really like the 70-71(very early 72 as well) headstock; reminds me of a '50s one
run through a de-bigulator.
